Good thing it wasn't a marmot. It would have taken Charlotte, not the fig bar. I hate marmots.
What a gorgeous spot. Charlotte's gorgeous too. Getting her started on the Patagucci I see.

I'm careful around marmots, even the super fat slow ones can chomp down on a finger. Got bit as a kid back home, it wasn't fun!
Charlotte could be an ambassador for the Patagucci worn wear program, her mom buys everything from there. At least it's not new, I'd need a 2nd job to afford that stuff!!"Your wife being mad is temporary, but pow turns do not get unmade" - mallwalker the wise

Wildlife
Had a super cool experience with a pine marten the other day. Was walking up a trail in the Tetons and caught some movement off to the left. It bumbled up through the woods and paralleled the trail about 20ft away, then crossed maybe 15ft behind us, so got a very good look at it. Had never seen one in person before.
It was a lot larger and fluffier than many of the photos on google appear.
eta: I guess technically it was a Pacific Marten
eta 2: Is it at all possible we saw a fisher? Supposedly their current distribution is farther north, but everything I’m seeing size wise suggests it was a fisher…
eta 3: cause I don’t like deleting things. After looking at more photos it definitely was not a fisher.

I spend a fair amount of time in the woods, desert and on the river so I see all kinds of cool shit.
But for some reason, crowes have always been my favorite. I don't know why.
Shot these guys outside the Wapiti Fire in Idaho.

Had some fun outside at 3am last night. Woke up to a very loud and startled bark by the hound. She gave a few more wuffs that I know mean something isn’t right, so grab a headlamp and out to the porch to see what’s up. Hound comes into the house as soon as I open the door, so I brace myself if a big bear or cat is in the yard. I see nothing, walk over to the steps down into the back yard and garden. Second step down, something aggressively grabs at my PJ ankles, I nearly jump out of my skin. Peer under the steps and there are 3 trash pandas looking back at me. I retreat to the top step, they run out. I grab a broom and evict them from the back yard. No damage or other malfeasance found.
Gave the hound some love, she’s old now and was probably soundly sleeping when the rascals came on the porch and disturbed her dreams. Raccoons in the yard is a first for us here. No food out, but I guess I should turn the compost (bins are sealed against a raccoon, but a bear could easily get into them). Fun times!

The trash pandas have been hanging out in my yard too. Fortunately things haven't escalated to the point where they are setting ambushes for me.

I don’t know what it was doing. Ammophila spp. everything that I read seems to indicate that they like big caterpillars to take to their larvae. It flew off shortly afterwards. I didn’t notice any caterpillars on my golden rod patch, but maybe. Now that I read that they aren’t usually aggressive, I’ll try to get closer next time for better pictures.

First day at a new jobsite. This young bull came trotting through. Then the neighbors old retriever decided it would be fun to chase. Luckily one spirited charge and the Moose went on his way.

I've been watching the Canada geese a lot lately. They've been up on land a lot eating pine nuts. They seem to lead much more complicated lives than I would have thought, going this way and that, in and out of the water, flying and landing, for no discernable reason. Lots of drama, chasing each other. I don't know what they have to talk about but they sure do a lot of it.

This is Ralph, our resident Red Tailed hawk. Looks like he’s doing a little inspection of his grocery getters."All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."

Just saw a beaver swim by. It's still pretty dark and it was pretty far away by the time I got the binoculars out. It was definitely a mamal of some kind. . I thought I saw the flat tail and it was moving pretty fast. The other possibility is river otter--they're around here apparently.
Years ago a beaver followed us half way around the lake as we motored slowly in our little sailboat, eating breakfast. The rumor was that someone trapped or killed it because it was girdling trees but I never saw anything official about it.
