    Wildlife

Stupid me. I accidentally left a trash bag outside my door last night. Was planning on going out, then didnt and forgot to make my way to the dumpster, with the trash bag still outside my door.

Wake up at 3am to a loud noise, a turd burgeler rambling through my beer cans. I opened up my door and no more than 6 inches from me was a 400 lb black bear..

Luckily his ass was faced towards me and the door, so I immediately shut the door and locked it up.

My closest bear encounter yet. Thankfully he didnt make much of a mess, so a 5 minute cleanup this morning..

Another animal I've never seen in person before.
When I was a kid, had a bear lean up against our car in Yellowstone and scratch the paint on the fender. This was back when they allowed feeding wildlife and the bears would routinely beg for food on the roadside. Somehow we felt that the glass in the car window was sufficient protection.

Last trip to Yellowstone I did happen to get a peek at a bear, but he was about 1/4 mile out. A tiny brown speck.

Had a much closer encounter with a wolf that crossed the road right in front of my car, but he was up the hill and out of sight before I could pull the trigger with my camera.

^^^Heh, this happened to us in Banff (Jasper?) National Park when I was a kid. Brown bear slobbered all over the side windows on one side of the car. Mt little brother and I made sure no one tried to clean the slobber off the windows.

Damn toad outside my window singing like its life depended on it. It's 6C, mid Oct and 51.5 latitude N. WTF? Last belt out before hibernation, or a Samhain omen come a bit early? 2016 been a weird year.

I'll give you toads. Or frogs. (Hyla versicolor) Gray tree frog.

That is the push button on a paddle. Tiny little fellow. Thought he was a pebble.

    I like boyds too
Here's an eagle that we would see all the time this summer on the teton village rd.
We would yell 'merica! every time we passed it

^^^ That last bird Rusty posted would've loved to make "friends" with the frog.

Caught a tree frog like that hopping around the garage in Truckee on Friday evening. My 2 YOs were pretty stoked to check it out before I placed him outside.

    some boyds in the backyard
lots of duck, geese and swans
Had a ton of snow here so it's been hard on the animals. we've had a moose frequently in the yard too (including this eve)
we have a couple folks in the neighborhood that let their dogs roam, but they are benevolent and seems like all the locals have been giving them a nice wide bert

so yesterday morning I was in the living rm and saw a bunch of birds fly by close to the window then -BAM- one hits the window.
So I ran over to the window to look out and see if ok and it was this little owl!

I think some magpies were harassing it when it hit the window but it settled to a nice little sheltered spot by my porch so it could recoup
was worried sick about it for about 20 mins then it flew up to a branch then flew away 5 mins after than
