From the files of 'Nature is Metal'. A large nest that was in the ivy on the side of my house fell, and it appears a cat (?) tail was part of it.

***Warning, kinda gross for kitty lovers**

Finished up work and logged off. Heard something fall behind the big TV. I've got some skateboards and guitar cases stashed back there so not all that unusual for something to shift or fall off a hook. I grab a flashlight and look back there and.... see a squirrel peeking back at me from the old chimney exhaust vent used for the old natty gas heater we have/had a cover on. The critter retreated back inside so I went around to the other side in the kitchen thinking that bringing it out that side would be easier to heard it out the back door than all the places and furniture to hide behind on the other side.

No luck, I sealed the covers back up thinking it had gone back up the chimney. Took a seat.. then guess what... It (or another one) popped out from behind the TV and we both arrived at the front storm door at the same time. It bounced off the glass door, bounced off me (pushing the door open at the same time) then ran behind my drum set in the corner of the living room. I opened the front door again and walked in to the kitchen towards the back door to get the dog.

Anyway, it darted out the front door before I could even get to the tack door to call the dog. Fucking hilarious! Guess I need to check the screen over the chimney again.

This happened about 15 years ago and our hound dog took care of it pretty quickly.. We'd had the roof redone and chimney covered after that. The new dog missed the whole thing. Too bad. Dog would have loved chasing that thing around the house hahahahaha! I guess I need to check that screen over the chimney again.

Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

Hootter in the yard yesterday morning. He sat there all day until one of the kids went out back after school and stirred him up.

Anyway, what a great experience. Now I understand why people volunteer for local SAR teams, or volunteer to work at food pantries, or volunteer to coach T-ball, or any kind of volunteer work. This was an emotionally enriching day. After 2 years of avoiding everyone, my soul needed this.

Plan worked like clockwork. Volunteers were assigned a radio and a trail junction. I was assigned junction A5, so I loaded my pack with a puffy, pac boots, a headlamp, a camp chair, and lunch.

DNR used a pole with a lasso on the end. Cinched it down when they got it around his head, then put him in a cage.

DNR turned him over to a non-profit bear rescue org who will get him the medical attention he needs. Then he will be turned back over to the DNR to be released back into the wild.

The only way that could be more Canadian is if there was a Mounty chugging a bottle of syrup riding the moose

A pan of no more than 25 degrees to the left would reveal the Canadian Tire.

It should be illegal for the general public to place trail cams on land they don't own. Obscure/destroy trail cams!

DNR/DEC cams should be clearly labeled as such, but otherwise, fuck that shit on public lands.

Not at all. Nope. Clear as a bell.

....... but I'm guessing somebody got nailed by a freedom stealing trail cam.

I took my dogs for a walk in the woods just before sunset a few weeks back. We were out a ways when suddenly I started hearing a really strange scream kind of a noise, something I had never heard before. It was really, really loud, and it was hard to tell exactly where it was coming from. The dogs tweaked, and I had a visceral reaction that strongly encouraged me to move away. Which I did. We seemed to put some distance between us and the sound, and after a couple minutes it stopped.

I had no idea what the fuck that was, and then came across this...

I'm glad we weren't out deeper in the forest when that happened.

    It was ... freaky.

Somewhat similar, but different, and weaker/softer.

The Reddit clip may be, but what I heard was not. And it was like the sound in the clip.

So you were hiking near a crazy woman from Mexico?
    Anyway, it’s a mountain lion.

Could've been either, I guess, but more of a yowling cry than a growl, if that makes any sense. Would last for a few seconds, then repeat intermittently. Went on for a while. Then ... silence.

I now recall thinking at the time maybe it was a young bear separated from its mother? But I decided best not to venture deeper into the woods to investigate.

Gray foxes can make a real racket. Crazy amount of noise from such a little critter.

The whales were still hanging out in Hawaii while I was just there, and a couple of times we could actually hear their calls underwater. The mic on the GoPro picked them up even better. Very cool.
