I think so. Some sort of electric shock that kills them quickly. I guess they decided that's the best of the various lethal options. It is not without some local controversy but Helena is a pretty pragmatic place.

Holey shit is right. Prolly more likely is the thing they use on cattle. The local mule deer are often fed, so I’m in a way trying to teach these individual deer that people aren’t so great. Anthropomorphize much?

Ummmm, that's a toad, and they are still dime a dozen.

On a brighter note, they just released several hundred Yellow legged frog tadpoles into streams in the San Gabriel mts, hoping to bring back the endanger population.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

    Hmmmm interesting.
I used to see salamanders all the time and I don't see as many now. Well except the outline of one in the sidewalk where it must have gotten stuck and died then rotted away leaving a salamander shaped void

It looks like he's contemplating where the individuals in the crowd around him fit into his "fuck, marry, kill list."

In Helena they kill hundreds of mule deer a year in town. The police do the dirty work. They capture them in cages at night and then taze them to death. The meat is processed by a local butcher and then donated to the food bank. Every year the city commission come up with a number of how many deer they want to "cull" from the local herd, based on how many complaints they've had of deer eating people's gardens, etc. In the last 10 years or so they've managed to get the population under control.
Shit. Back in the day I hit one on my bike bombing off of schlonkers knob in the dusk. Do they still call it that? The little knoll below mt ascension.

This was way out of my comfort zone as well. A backstage tour of the national zoo in Uganda. They asked if we wanted to pet cheetahs for an extra fee (like $5 US) and we said sure. Kids not allowed. We walked in, they locked the door and let them out.

Did the same w rhinos, giraffes, elephants.

Fed lions from behind a cage. Big lazy male sitting in the sun when a handler dropped a big shank of some animal. He leaned in to grab it and the lion damn near had him. If you’ve seen how fast a house cat moves this 600 pound cat was way faster.

    Those cheetahs are cool.

Saw a badger today by the side of the road. First time I've ever seen one--I think they are usually nocturnal. Such a distinctive face, pretty cool. Not my pic:
