WTF is up with the heroin?

I don't get it. Recently I've had a half dozen people I know well or sorta know die of heroin OD. 20, 30 40 year old people who I never woulda thunk it. Never tried it myself. What's the deal? Why even try?

Yeah, I had a good friend and former coworker OD about 10 years ago. Most of us at his funeral didn't have a clue that he was using. Guy was pretty well off, too.

WTF is up with the heroin?

Might not have been the heroin. A lot of users are getting fucked w fantenyl and carfentyl being cut in or taken on the side. Shit is way too heavy duty for humans.

And a lot of people started H because they got hooked on OxyContin or the like and the H is way cheaper.

The pharmaceutical industry told doctors that Oxycontin was a safe, non addictive pain management tool.

They even spiffed docs to prescribe it.

Fast forward a few years, and you have a heroin epidemic.

    what MC said.
I am EMT, i have been on a number of calls in our small roaring fork valley foro heroin od. NARCAN has saved a number of lives, and i was under the impression that Kroeger/City Market was going to start offering it OTC.
I was on a call a year ago. a guy during rush hour slammed into a downvalley bus stop. We get there, guy is flatlined. There is a spoon, and needle on the center console. Gave him NARCAN and he was up and talking. Asked if we really needed to take him to the hospital. Ohh yeah.

Anyway, pretty sad to see. And it does start with the pain med addiction. Must be a great high, because it seems to be super addicting.

People get hooked on pills, can't get pills anymore, move to heroin.......bing -bang - boom.

Also Fentanyl is killing a lot of folks, took my best friend back in March. Highly functional, nobody knew.

A wise sage once said "It's hip to be square". In this case, I think he was right.
Acid is as rowdy as I was willing to go, and one bad trip is all it takes.
I can't even imagine wanting to inject something into myself.

Yeah I've done way too much LSD and a bit of X but never wanted to bang it up. Been 20 years since I was on the bus.

    yea never wanted to try.
blows my mind that others think they will be the ones who can handle it and not get hooked
herbs of the earth, cocktailing, some acid and mushrooms occasionally and that keeps me pretty busy

Close friend/client of many years died from an H OD a couple years ago. He had been hooked for about a decade, during which he lost his family biz and his wife. All he gave a shit about was getting his next fix.

Absurdly overly prescribed opiates got millions of people hooked. Doc shopping ensued. Crackdown followed, driving pill addicts to cheaper street H. Epidemic levels now.

I was on fentanyl after brain surgery. Crazy powerful shit.

I didn't even know they were playing with it, let alone hooked. I'm good. I just worry about others.

been reading that in states where weeds are legal they have seen the usage of opiates/pain killers drop - particularly among the older folks. love that

I bet. Continuing to list weed as more dangerous than oxy or fentanyl is the problem.

There used to be a big heroin problem at the high school my kids were slated to attend, before we moved to California: http://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/teenage-wasteland/

There might have been a problem in the California school as well, but I never heard about it. Certainly a lot of other drug use there.
