Yes, the Pivot 15/18 has upward compensation, not upward release.

Heh.. this old argument just won't die.

The pic is misleading, and you can test yourself by backing off the DIN spring to "zero" and attempting to pull the boot toe straight up/back.

The housing will tilt forward, so there is some amount of upward movement BUT the toe lug will not clear the housing without adding some sideways movement.

IOW, there's a vertical component of release, but only when combined with lateral.

Can someone (for my sake) put to rest whether the 18 releases vertically in the toe like the 14? Or is the 14 safer for everyone with DIN 14 and down?

As mentioned on this page and the last, no vertical release. Safe is a relative word, and not a linear gradiant. What is safe for one thing might not be safe for others.

How about the SPX 15 Rockerflex? Can you mount it flat? Can you get wider brakes?

You can mount it flat (you can doesn't mean you should). I have on my MX88s and it worked fine (I never crashed so I never put that bit to the test).

I used the pivot toe and then did the heal with a lot of measuring and triple checking.

Brake wise they don't fit the px brakes but I've not had a chance to try the non race rocker flex ones. They take a good shove to click into and I'm 200lbs.

Question - any difference in weight in the 15 vs. 18?

I just received a pair of 18s, I run an 8 din - any reason to sell these and pick up 15s?

Nope. The springs might, might, be a bit lighter, but then you're counting grams.

I'm pretty sure 15s used to be aluminum and 18s were steel? Am I imagining things again?
