    Seriously.
It used to - I'm a Type II diabetic, so the alcohol makes the sugar sine curve pretty steep and just not worth managing. Another motivation to skip booze is I would like to keep my teeth, eyesight, hands and feet as long as possible.

Smoking - it was a hard one to put down. It's been 12 years. Sitting on an outcropping along a buttress at 15k/asl, enjoying the sunrise with a very good friend and our guide - sucking on wine infused peaches and smoking cigarettes had me pretty convinced that smoking was more than okay. I had persuaded myself that smoking actually extended my altitude adaptability. After all, as a 2 pack a day smoker, I was conditioned to getting less oxygen so, while everyone else was sucking air and trying to beat back atixia, I was on cruise. Good enough for the 30 or so guides at the bus stop in the morning, good enough for me.

    NOT

Wow you guys really seem to enjoy nuts. I appreciate a good nut enthusiast.
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

Y'all realize nuts are not exactly environmentally friendly. It takes 5 gal of water to grow one walnut and 1 gal to grow one almond...

Unsalted sprouted almonds, dry and crunchy. Whole foods and Central Market are good sources, although availability varies by store. Expensive, but once used to them it is hard to go back to ordinary almonds.

These nuts taught 8-9 year old me that life is going to be really hard, but funny, sometimes involve a lesbian, and that your dog is always your best friend.
