So you don't think shock and vibrations cause shear forces? Google up the general characteristics of rubber. It yields, damps, seals and protects. Hence you being right and wrong. Also, it's 'damping' not ' dampening. You're wrong about that too!

Vds adds weight. Heavier = more damp.
Does it dampen the frequencies ski makers care about measureably? Yes. Can you tell. Doubt it. If you start putting it on the deck in the tip and tail and underfoot for sure.
Liberty puts a layer of urethane above the uhmw. Its for topsheet chip and damping both.
You can see it. Its yellow/greenish.

Have any of you actually ever seen/held VDS? Just curious.

My Line Supernaturals have urethane sidewalls. They call it "Shockwall." I have no idea if it does anything for the performance but they ski super well.

Its a 0.2mm SBR 40 shore A material.
It comes thicker as well and perforated if you want it. Praxis uses it.
Yes, I have lots of it.
2 companies in the world make it.
Haberkorn intl austria.
Ask industries japan. Asher sheet.
I have been trying to source it in china.
No one can make it this thin.
I know a taiwan tpu film company that makes .2mm shore 80 a tpu film.
Its not treated for bonding/ blasted and its too strong. You cant tear it.Last edited by lobstahmeatwad; 10-03-2016 at 06:15 PM.

Booger-(since dampening refers to moistening or wetting, not damping vibrations, I wholeheartedly agree) I'm not talking in absolutes here dude, each build is different. Rubber is the dampest component in the composite(metal the least), how much used and where makes a difference. I'm not saying, for example, ON3P's ride is damp because they used a thin strip of rubber along the length of their edge(although I do believe it helps with initial transmission through edge). It is a common way to control vibrations. Pull thine head from thine arse!
And yes, I'm not a builder like Mr. Wad, but I have held VDS is mine hand. I've fixed hundreds of delams of all sorts, in my previous shop rat life, which means I've had to deconstruct skis too. Used to use it under edge on edge replacements and bent edges(if able to).

it would be ideal if I could get sidewalls made of fine cured meat, providing nourishment when I grind switch through the park on my way to the road.
