    Grooming @ Vail

Pretty much all positions needed. Entry, advanced, lead, terrain park, and winch.

    Grooming @ Vail

If it's dumping in the middle of the night and you're out grooming, is jumping out to score some dark powder turns frowned upon?

Sadly, that would most likely be frowned upon. However, there is no rule against skinning up on your night off and skiing fresh pow (or fresh cord).

Have always been curious about that! How late do groomers usually work?

Both resorts where I've worked have had a night shift and a grave shift. So, pretty much any time the lifts aren't turning, there is grooming happening. The shifts meet around midnight and switch cats -- the night shift goes home and the grave shift takes over until dawn.

Pluses and minuses for both shifts, obviously. The night shift gets a slightly more 'normal' schedule. But it's easier to get fresh tracks on grave shift. Night shift only gets afternoon leftovers before work, unless you can gut it out and get up early.

The hours aren't for everybody. But some people love it. It's pretty neat having the place to yourself.
