Teahupoo holding period starts today. Aug 10-21. No swell of interest forecast. Sucks. Best event to watch when surf is up.

Some barrels to be had, but nothing really noteworthy. Round 1 ran yesterday. Round 2 in the water now.

I want to surf that wave so bad. Build one of those wave pools in MN. Charge whatever you need to for a season pass. I’ll be the first one to sign up.

My friend has surfed it twice now. He said it was funky at first, but then super fun. Still a different experience, but fun.

    Hahaha!

But damn is that guy good. The man-made wave is perfect to showcase his talent. I would have bet the farm he was going to win.

The Surf Ranch event grew on me as it approached the top seeds. Yeah it was boring but was really interesting to see how some had it figured out and some didn't and also to pick out everyone's individual style more clearly. Some notes:

    - Why didn't Filipe play it safe on his last couple lefts and aim for a 7.5-8 (he could've got that) instead of a Hail Mary run?
    - In Kolohe's interview he complained about the judging but I felt the surfers that made it through deserved it.
    - Its really too bad they replaced Trestles as I usually find it such a fun wave to watch, especially considering how high performance of an 'everyman's wave' it is.
    - Why no talk at this man-made wave event about 2020 Tokyo Olympics? I don't know when it was dated but last week I read an article saying they've started building the surf venue and how its most likely Kelly 2.0.
    - One article commented on it being a great female/male equalizer and how Carissa would've placed 4th in the men's, but, ummmm, how stupid, judges aren't scoring apples to oranges, they're scoring apples to apples, oranges to oranges.
    - Kelly made a comment on how they only have like 10-20% of this wave's variables figured out and they still have a LOT of learning/experimenting to do.
    - Way too many commercials and repetitive comments (i.e. "Kelly says Medina is the greatest backside tuberider here, blah-blah").
    - Really enjoy when Kelly is in the commentator's booth and his technical breakdowns of the surfer's wave.

I still really want to practice on this wave.

Who is this Medina you keep mentioning?

Boards were snappin'! Sounded like water patrol was a big part of it and Kemper getting knocked out. Now that it's off they'll be out there charging it anyway.

Gnarly today. Stoked for tomorrow. Glad nobody seriously hurt.

Women’s comp on now in a pumping Honolua Bay. Gilmore winds the title when Lakey lost in round two.
