for the folks in the rockies.

season pass deadlines are October 15th, and prices will go up about 30% if you delay. Prices are for full adult pass.
Norquay $680 (plus some $100/$200/ deals but have blackout dates)
lake louise $1050 ($1000 last year)
SSV $1000 (down $100 from $1100 last year)
RCR (nakiska, fernie, kimberly, KH) $1300 (was $1200)
    RCR + LL $1600 (was $1500)
Big 3 (SSV, LL, norquay) $1600 ($1500 last year)
Passport (SSV, LL, Quay, RCR, jasper) $2,026 ($1900)

    Day tickets $100 ish

Odds are discount cards will average out to $60+/day (after you ski 3+ days)

So, if you ski 1-3 days this year, buy day tickets
if you ski 4-15 days buy a card. (10 days is twice a month over 6 month)
if you ski 16+ days buy a pass. (15 days is 3 times a month, over a 6 month season)

Trevor Matt and Ian slashed up some freshies last week on the parkway so I guess that officially the 16/17 season aint it? or are we waiting until after September 1st to call it?

Long weekend coming up, that means it will be snowing in the mountains. To bad fortress road is still not open, it was always good for a September outing. So might be highwood pass.

Those seem like pretty good prices to me. We pay $849 up until Sept. 30th here in Smithers. Not dissing the fine folks at Hudson Bay Mountain; they make no money and breaking even is considered a good year for them but damm, a grand for Lake Louise and Sunshine!!! You guys got it good.

    A couple of additional notes:

The Panorama Snowcard last year was $150. You get your first three days skiing for that and save$20 for every ski day thereafter. So it isn't the 1st/4th/7th days skiing like the other cards. No blackouts either.

Second. Early weather forecasts for season. Canadian Rockies will be colder than the 10-30 year average for Nov-March, but, the good news, precipitation looking to be 110-125% of normal.

The area the precipitation forecast encompasses is from Western Washington/Oregon, northern Idaho, Montana and north along continental divide to about Jasper latitude or a little north of that.

Most likely a weak La Niña event at most is possible. The cool waters of the La Niña event are to be offset by warmer waters bordering this, which will reduce the typical La Niña patterns.

Skied kinda freshies all summer. The event I call the start of the season now is skiing down to the highway at the pass. Timed right, you can ski on some high glacier in fresh most months of summer. Skinning and skiing from the car is really the big turning point in effort: reward, so the most abrupt change in season, in my view.

    Beauty!

Definitely a nominee for the raddest line ever skied in September (in the Northern Hemisphere).

Thanks dude. I figured the rib would make at most 50% of the sluff come down on me, so I decided it was good enough to open up some turns on. I wasn't about to exit the rib and risk having bad timing and getting smacked in the gullies on either side, and outrunning it forever wasn't an option, so I reckoned stopping to let it pass high enough above the cliffband to have a second chance was the best course. And also on a left turn so my whippet would be ready if I ended up on hard snow.

It starts at the first ski to the highway at the pass. There's always fresh snow to ski if you're willing to work.

Soloing was considered since I was pretty sure it was going to be damn good up there. But skian came had just enough time before work to come with, which I'm super grateful for as the glacier was more complex than anticipated. He skied another line close to the ascent route and I came down that other one.

Thanks, but I don't think anything will ever measure up to September 1995.

And um, start it after a night shift, paddle, skin, ski and then hit another night shift... Are you a mutant dude!? Well played man.
