That is great. I've always wondered how you get the best to start a hive at your spot?

Looks brilliant. I have been thinking about getting a hive, and this looks like a great way to have one with a lot less hassle.

Also had the thought over the years of taking up bee keeping. This might just be the advancement that allows that. Very neat and hope this works out.

If you live somewhere that has good forage and you've got the space you can invite commercial bee keepers to place hives on your property. An outfit out of Milton-Freewater OR has several dozen hives they place on my land and in return they keep me in honey. It's like keeping bees without the work!
Mmmmmm, honey... so good on shredded wheat with fresh tree ripened peaches for breakfast.“When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. To do something." Rep. John Lewis

Absolutely brilliant. My brother is a bee keeper, sent him the video.

I've always wanted to get into it.
A guy I work with in the summers has several hives- he sells a good amount of honey. Bees everywhere are taking a beating lately- last winter about half his bees died. No bees = no food. Pretty important stuff.
With the alarming loss of bees around the country it should be a national emergency he says.
Pesticides, radio waves, wifi, mites, who knows? I even heard a good story about this on NPR...Ski Shop - Basement of the Hostel

Seems gimmiky based on various beekeepers on youtube, should see alot on craigslist next few years.
I will start traditionally at some point, depending on if/when my neighbor moves and takes hers with her.

When I first saw this video, I went looking for info. It seemed to me that anything that seemed to be nothing but upside probably wasn't.
I came across this: http://www.honeycolony.com/article/3...the-flow-hive/
I don't know enough to understand how valid the concerns are, but I wonder if your bro may have similar thoughts?

Fast forward a few years: I keep bees now.
But in an unprecedented showing of personal growth and maturity, I took formal classes and prepared myself before jumping in .. (eye roll)
With a new perspective, I re-watched the video.
I was fascinated when I first saw this. But I didn't know any better. I was the target audience.
And I get it, the video is aimed with a pretty narrow focus - by design for the crowd-sourcing. But there is SO much more to beekeeping (and honey extraction) than this. So much more.
It is interesting .. but I agree: gimmicky and short-sighted. Like everything worth working for, there are no shortcuts. No tricks. There's no bee 'life hack.' If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
This design looks .. wrong (?) to me now.
+1 to whoever said it, if it's just about honey .. maybe befriend a bee keeper or buy it at the farmers market (or pull a KQ and host bees on your property). Even better, learn everything you can about bees and beekeeping, then decide.
