geo, I'd love to see a rocker profile pic of the Lowdown 90, if you get a chance. Having a hard time visualizing it from the site.

At the risk of coming off as a bitchy nag (wait, this is TGR, right?), I was wondering if there's any interest in a slightly longer Countdown 114? Like in a 195-200 cm length?
Apologies to Geo et al for mucking around in their offering. I'd think that if the CD 114 were offered in a 182 cm and then a bigger one, like a 195 or so, it might make that ski more attractive.

I'm getting the 202 length showdowns, mainly because I've badgered SiSt about something like it for years. You new worlders should do so too.

they (actually) worked very well for their intentions, mainly going pretty straight, but were a bit low and soft in the shovels, so a hard turn in deep coastal pow could become a bit counter intuitively abrupt, almost making the skis into a j-shape effectively shortening the sidecut radius a huge amount. Glad I'm not a ski designer. For hauling ass in shit snow, they are great, but could lose a good centimeter all over.
Enter the SD105, and I'll be happy as a pig in shit. Endre Hals at Prog/Evi makes a model called the SIG, very similar, but no metal.

Nice. Far better conditions than those chatter turns on Tuckerman's.

Folks, read those threads Dschane linked to and get in on this deal. You'll thank me. If I hadn't done a full quiver refresh this Winter, along with buying an old pair of Countown 102's from Auvgeek, I'd be all over this buy (don't get me started on all of the guitar related purchases this Summer).
I expect the boys at Down will eventually smarten up, because at full retail, they can't be making more than pocket change on each sale. At these prices, it's downright highway robbery.
Auvgeek's Countdown 102's made me a believer. They are not Countdown lights (or their successors, the YW8 102 --> Lowdown 102), but rather the predecessor to the Countdown 107's (this year, they're 104's).
They're still quite light, at about 3700g/8.0 Lbs per pair for a 179 (going from memory), and I mounted them up with a pair of Vipecs. I got perhaps 20K vertical feet on them this Spring, so I'm still dialing them in, but am extremely impressed. I haven't skied a lot of newer skis, but as a point of reference, you tend to stand on them more like an ON3P than a Praxis. Edit: it looks as if the Throwdown's are more centered than the Countdowns. Others can comment better than I.
Light as they are, they're very stable. If I were in on this buy (for a touring ski), I'd definitely drop down in mass to the Lowdown 102, as these guys build skis that punch way above their weight class.
Don't believe me. Read the comments in the threads in the links Dschane posted at the top of this thread. They're that good.
I feel myself weakening ... Damn! That ThrowDown 125 looks like a hole in my quiver (he says).
BTW, for all of you guys who are voting for different lengths and such, take a look at the "more lengths" link to the right of the ski length in the specification area for each model. This takes you to a form where you can check off skis on your wish list. Granted, there aren't many TGR approved macho lengths there.
Disclaimer: no assoication with Down in any way ... just a new believer.
Cheers,

^^Glad you like 'em, Thom. We should get out and make some turns next time I'm in your neighborhood and there's snow on the ground. I agree: Down offers just an insane value today in a world of $1k+ carbon skis.
Well...not exactly. The CD 102 is kind of the predecessor & compatriot to the Countdown 102 Light in that the CD102 is the same shape/rocker as the CD 102L but made in the a standard, carbon "Countdown" layup rather than the ultralight layup. That year (2014?), Down offered that same shape in two layups. The next year, Down nixed the standard layup and the shape became available in the YW8 102, which is now renamed the LD102.
I nitpick only because the CD107 -> CD104 is a totally different shape. And I think that confuses people a little bit since they were all in the "Countdown" line.Last edited by auvgeek; 07-20-2016 at 10:25 AM.

Right, they are the same as the CD 102L except that they have a pawlonia core and the regular has the poplar-ash one, at least as far as I know. The Lowdown 102 is the newest generation of the 102L.
On a different note, if you're interested, vote for the Showdown 105 to be made in a 187 cm:

Do Down skis tend to measure true to length? As in, if I throw a tape measure straight pull on a 177cm Lowdown 90, will the tape measure read 177cm (like an ON3P would) or somewhat shorter than that (like most other brands)?

^^IIRC, yes. If they're not 100% on the mark, they're close. None of the Blizzard nonsense of offering a 185 ski that measures 182.X.

My CD102Ls measure 178.75 straight pull, so 0.25cm off

Depending on what geos feedback is on the 114 than I think there is a very good chance you can count me in for a pair...

8/15.
Next week, I will PM folks who are in or on the fence, get a head count, and plan on submitting the order on 8/15 (so latecomers are welcome). The website is set up for European buyers, so last year, I just sent a spreadsheet of our order, Geo sent me an invoice, and each person sent a Paypal payment for his/her share. It worked out well (other than I botched one person's order of a pair of skins, but we fixed that within a couple of weeks). Collectively, the folks who are in on the order will figure out shipping to U.S. and then delivery after that.
