I used to swear by the two stage Blackburn pumps...



they're great for what they're worth, but I switched over to the Lezyne Techdrive HV.



The removable hose allows you to get a little bit sloppy with your strokes when your arm gets tired. Or so says my wife.....

Lezyne makes a pump, as well as others I'm sure that threads onto a valve stem. I popped a tire and the tube I had didn't have a stem long enough for my mammoth pump to get a good purchase in the rim I have. A neighborly feller came up on me about in tears and let me use his. I was sold. That thing was awesome.

Plus it was shiny.

Wifey was at the top of UPS a few weeks ago, and there was a dude nearly in tears because he foolishly tried to bleed a few psi from his fork, and let it all out. (Who hasn't been there?)
Anyhoo, someone in wifey's party had this exact pump, and saved his Porcupine run.
Moral: this pump is for crybabies

Topeak Mtn Morph/Road Morph/Mini Morph > everything else. Being able to push the pump against the ground takes the pain out of fixing flats.

Mini Morph is fine for anything but fatbikes. I'd take a Mtn Morph for that. The G versions have gauges if that's important to you.

I've used it twice recently after some unlucky flats. Definitely an improvement over a fixed pump head and its backed by their lifetime warranty and awesome customer service. (I contacted them one time about how to clean a pump's internals since it was feeling a little gritty and they just sent me a new pump instead).

When it works right the Lezyene is pretty sweet. I have also watched a friend pump up his tire and the proceed to unscrew the core. 3x!!!

The blackburn pump I mentioned actually includes a valve core tool in case you pull this move.

If I was buying a mini today I’d get the OneUp pump that doubles as CO2 inflator AND stores a CO2 cartridge inside.

Never personally had the valve core issue with the lezyne micro floor drive. The HV is awesome. I'll never own another pack pump that isn't this style.

I've experienced it with BOTH my Micro Floor Drive HV and my CNC Travel Drive. It sucks balls so big they should be in porn. It sucks at the trail head. It sucks even more on the trail when you've just suffered through changing out a flat. I crank my valve cores on so fucking tight now they're a pain to get off.

I bought them because they're shiny pretty things. Basically; Crank Brothers Marketing 101.

FWIW, I couldn't stand the Micro Floor Drive. Takes up too much space in the pack, shitty valve, and the handle is so awkward it actually starts hurting after a while. I've swapped it out for a more typical jerk-off style pump. Maybe it's just what I'm more practiced at? YMMV.

Never had a valve core come out while using a Lezyne either. I tighten my cores pretty tight (one of those universal spoke wrenches is the ideal tool) and don't screw the hose in tighter than necessary. Had a HV drive (medium) for years, a friend has the small version which seems just as well built, and I just picked up a Digital Alloy Drive cheap, only tested at home so far but the pressure gauge seems OK.

Blackburn Airstik SL when I'm riding without a pack. This thing is tiny, works just OK, but for the size, weight and the chance of me actually having to use it, it serves its purpose well.

I run the 949 schrader valves so maybe that's why I've never pulled a core. I had two other people I was riding with get flats in the last two days and I let them borrow my pump so we could get back to riding faster. Both said they were swearing off jerk-off style hand pumps forever. Tires inflate twice as fast with half the effort.

Yeah, well over a decade with a Mountain Morph. It is large though, it only comes along for the ride when I am wearing a pack (which is pretty often), I use Mini for frame carry, and that has held up well too. They have always worked, always end up lending them too. Maybe not as fancy as other newer stuff out there, but they have been very reliable for me.

Taking them apart every once in a while to blow them out and add a little mineral oil (and replace the O-ring if needed) keeps them functioning well over a long period of time.

My Mammoth shit the bed and I needed a pump. Saw this on clearance at the Performance store. The flip lock eliminates any core removal issues. Thing’s pretty nice, especially for the price. We’ll see how durable it is.

I unscrewed the core once while sweating my ass off and getting eaten alive by mosquitos. I almost died. I take great caution in removing the pump these days.

And I never know how tight is too tight with the core. I'm assuming you can overtighten the little O ring thing?

This. With the Lezyne or Blackburn you still need to hold the pump in the air and use both hands. With the Morphs you just put the wheel down and push the pump against the ground. Much better and easier.

(Edit to add: The Lezyne Micro Floor Drive you can indeed put on the ground, but the Tech Drive you still need to hold.)

The Mountain Morph is indeed a pack-sized pump, but the Mini Morph fits in a lumbar pack and isn't obtrusive on the frame of your bike.

This is the exact reason that I strongly dislike every Lezyne pump I've ever used.

And screwing it on and off just feels like an annoying extra step.

You're right. I was looking at the picture of the Tech Drive posted above. The micro floor drive looks like it has an even longer hose than the Morphs!

Does anyone have a Topeak Master Blaster water bottle mount they aren't using?

Had a topeak mountain morph for a couple years til it broke, now have a Filzer mini zee, very similar design (mini floor pump style with foot pad) but seems to work better so far, got one with a gauge which is really nice to have.

Of course a pack only pump, I do stick a really small park tool pump (pmp 3.2) to my bottle cage if I'm going with out a pack, sucks to use that one though haha.

Edit.... Looks like I was one of the first posts in this thread 2 years ago. So looks like the topeak got about 4 years. I used it ALOT working as a mountain bike guide, pumps come out all the time.

Lately I have been using the Topeak Mountain TT. It has GIRTH. Super easy action, very high volume for a ‘small’ pump.
I got them for three bikes, including fat bike and gravel bike.
Best pump I have had yet.

Does anyone have a Topeak Master Blaster water bottle mount they aren't using?

I don't have any extras, but if you are still looking for a pump mount, I'm using an older version of this Lezyne cage that has an integrated universal pump bracket. Holds the pump with a velcro strap. Works fine on my commuter bike; don't know how well it'd hold on a mountain bike.

I want a CO2 inflator that can be threaded on and ready to inflate right away. I realized that having quick access to plugs isn’t as helpful when I plug, but then have to root through my pack for air.
Not sure if they’ll just leak out over time though. And teeing up an empty cartridge sure would suck.
