Skied my steepest BC patch yet (first year spending much time in the BC) yesterday off Rollins pass in CO . Entry was certainly a bit puckering. For the first 7-8ft.

This lady had backpacked over a pass, camped, solo climbed the patch. She was smart and finished on the bench before heading downhill.

While Mrs. Vets hiked higher up with our dogs Makisha and Penny for the views, I skied a few laps on what was left of the North America Patch(es) and took some self-timer photos.

While hiking near Ski Lake the previous week, Mrs. Vets noticed a semi-hidden patch. We hiked toward Ski Lake hoping that it would still be there.
    We found it!

Nice Leavitt photos, Vets. The only time I ever skied Sept was the patch above Ski Lake. How's the road going into Leavitt Lake? We've got a 4x4 Sprinter coming in a couple of weeks and I thought Leavitt would be a good inaugural voyage. Some years there are a couple of sketchy sections on the way in.

    Thanks.
The road has gotten worse. There are now at least three sketchy sections to deal with. Leavitt Lake road is a good test for any vehicle. I saw plenty of Jeeps, Tacomama's, and Full-sized trucks up there, but no 4 x 4 Sprinters. (However, I did see some when I was in Iceland.)

Thanks, Vets, I was afraid of that. I might just give it a whirl, though, as the Sprinter comes with a low range. I've been out of commission all summer, so I've especially enjoyed your patch reports this year. Thanks for keeping it going.

It's just a couple of spots of weirdness. You can do it in a 2wd car. You need a spotter for the first creek crossing and a couple other short sections. It's mostly ok but you could get stuck if you try. I think you will be fine.

Yeah buddy! Ribs healed. Finger sorta healed. I'm so ready! Hiking Leavitt Peak PCT Sunday with Owen.

I crossed the river and was in your town today with my wine dealer. Lunch at the Lucky Penny.

Glad you're revved up and ready to go, Mike. Great stretch of the PCT between the pass and Leavitt Lake. Have a great time. I'm not in Murphys much anymore. Turned my practice over to a friend in May and retired. Couldn't get my health problems figured out. Finally found someone at UCSF this summer who's got me on a path that hopefully will have me up and going again. I'll hope to see you out there.

The October Patch on September 5th.
As mentioned above I was joined by Powdrhound and Dale. (This was actually my 155th consecutive month skiing.) We passed four skiers hiking back out who had already skied the October Patch earlier in the day. When we arrived we met up with a couple of other friends, Til Pow Do We Part and Dan and we took some runs with them after having a little lunch to give the snow a chance to soften up a bit.
