Another clueless tourist vs Yellowstone wildlife

An elk this time. Love the badass way he stands there and stares everyone down after the charge. Too bad you can't see the impact.

Me and the boy were hiking to a waterfall in YNP, rounded a corner and I about shit myself, saw this guy about 20 feet off the trail, froze and waited. He seemed more concerned about eating, we went by very slowly keeping an eye on him. He was still there on the way back, but was a lot farther away.

Nah, you just stand between two trees close together.

Rounded a corner on the Middle Fork Popo Agie (pa-PO-zha) in the Winds and found myself face to face with a bull. Not a bull elk. A bull bull. I yielded right of way (see thread in Outdoors)

my father was gored by a moose ( kind of)and it made a nasty hole in his leg that took a long time to heal, he just kept putting BFD powder on it

they shot 2 moose which they were hoisting up on a tree to dress, Duno if they had started drinking beer yet, back in those days I would think so, they were hoisting the 1st one up with a cheap block & tackle and the rope broke

when it broke pa fell backwards on the other dead moose which was lying right there on the ground, nasty wound which always made me wonder what kind of hole a charging unglet would make?

actualy they can run thru a forest at top speed that you can't walk thru, it better be BIG trees cuz whatever they can't deek thru they will mow over

Without starting anything to hot for conversation, a moose would be a pretty crazy sight.

Depending on who you talk to, some say the wolves ate all the moose, while others say the moose all left the park for more civilized areas- where the wolves won't go.

Either way, they're hard to find these days- at least in Yellowstone.

You run into lots of moose and bar up narth eh, one almost came thru the windshield at 100kph, almost punched my ticket, still it caused a lot of damage, after that I drove in the middle of the road to allow extra reaction time, scanned the ditches as well as the road, got driving lights, watched the reflectors in the ditch for interruptions when something walks in front of them

after paw finished goring himself on the moose they took some picts of the Kill zone, so with a 30-06 slug in him that 800lb moose quit dodging the trees and just knocked to the ground what looked to be 4" diameter willows

We see quite a few moose outside YNP on the Idaho side of the Centennials. We have one that winters not far from here in a stand of quakies and in a crater. The other day I learned that bear spray will work on a charging moose too. I worry more about mountain lions, moose, then bear.

How is it that no skiers have been charged at the base of JHMR? I'm always amazed at the number of folks that will stop just a few feet away from a cow and her calves at the base to take pictures.
