another clueless tourist vs yellowstone geothermals

Officials in Yellowstone National Park confirmed a man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries last weekend after falling into a thermal feature.
Cade Edmond Siemers, a 48-year-old US citizen currently living in India, suffered severe burns to a significant portion of his body after falling into thermal water near the cone of Old Faithful Geyser on September 29.
Rangers and paramedics responded late Sunday to the Old Faithful Inn at midnight where Siemers was staying. He told rangers that he had gone for a walk off the boardwalk without a flashlight and tripped into a hot spring. He got himself back to his hotel room and called for assistance. Rangers detected evidence of alcohol use.
Siemers was taken by ambulance to West Yellowstone Airport and then flown by fixed-wing plane to Idaho Falls. Poor weather conditions prohibited the use of a life flight helicopter at Old Faithful. He was admitted to the Burn Center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Since rangers were not at the scene of the incident last night, they went out at first light this morning to investigate in the thermal area. They discovered several items near the geyser (the man’s shoe, hat, and a beer can), footprints going to and from the geyser, and blood on the boardwalk.
Investigations continue today, including assessing any damage to the geyser cone. The results of the investigation will be forwarded to the United States Attorney’s Office for prosecutorial review.skid luxury

ya know, if you got burns enough to warrant a life air transport; and you WALK back to your hotel room to call the hospital...that takes some balls.

Yesterday we had a guest check out and he was sharing some park and wildlife photos with our concierge. Some were selfies of him danger close to bison. But he showed one pic of him with a head of a badger that he cut off. Said it was dead on the side of the road in the park and he wanted a cool animal skull souvenir and he's going to bury it so the bugs eat the tissue then bleach it. She reported him to our wildlife biologist on staff who then contacted GTNP. Not sure what will happen to the guy since he's already home (I'm assuming he's from Ogden).

Yeah, I had enough workers arrested in YNP to know that story is bullshit.
Seriously though, the animals are so tolerant in the park, you have to be a real dipshit to get one to go off.

I worked as a wrangler in GTNP about 10 years ago. The level of stupidity among tourists in the park was frankly mindblowing.
Got asked daily, "What's the white stuff on the mountains?" Dafuq you think it is? I guess they couldn't fathom snow existing in summer? We started telling them the park rangers put down packing peanuts to save any climbers that fell. They believed us.
Had a woman ask me to call the rangers and "tell them to let the bears out so my kids can see them." It's not a fucking zoo, lady.
Some woman that summer sprayed her kids in the face with bear spray because she thought it worked like bug spray.
Another woman up in Yellowstone lifted up her kid and sat him down on a bison to take a picture. kid got killed.
I'm sure I'll remember more of these later.

Tara Davoli, 31 years old, and Sarah A. Piotrowski, 30, both of Philadelphia, went in front of a judge yesterday and were sentenced to two days imprisonment, a fine of $350, restitution of $106.92 for damages to Opal Pool, two years of unsupervised release, and a two-year ban from Yellowstone National Park. The restitution was based on a damage assessment conducted by a Yellowstone geologist and a thermal research crew.

Sometimes you wonder how they lived this long.
If you can get past the ad, they show someone being tossed.
