You ever see a lot of cliffs in say Nebraska. Yeah, they did it when they could but on the Great Plains that was not always an option.

Yeah, people are real surprised when I tell them how the natives trapped eagles. I guess they thought the indians were running around with big nets?

Get yourself a dead critter, build a rock wall around it - doesn't have to be tall, couple feet will do. Hang back and watch for an eagle to land on the carcass and gorge itself silly. Eagles need a running start to get airborne with a full crop. If they're inside that wall, you got yourself an eagle.

Some places around here you can still see the remians of old eagle traps on ridges. That and teepee rings are a pretty cool and spooky things to find.

Catching an eagle may be a good covid activity for when the lockdowns are put back in place.

Not really, eagles are majestic AF, but not that smart like say, a raven.

If I can chase a grounded eagle down and catch it (and I have), some young buck brave sure can.

I've seen photographs of pre-Columbian Indians hunting buffalo on foot with bows and arrows.

Only the part where they wrapped electric wire on the carcass to stun the bird.

Which makes me always laugh when people say "The Native Americans always used ALL parts of the animal; not letting anything go to waste."

Yeah. Because two dudes out on a hunt slaughtered and picked clean like a thousand buffalo. Sure. /s

Haha. Seriously badass tactic though. That would've been quite a sight to see.

My wife hit a freedom chicken on her way to work once. Called freaking out, told her to either not worry about it or call fish and game and let them know. Told a buddy at work and he was like shit, I could've gotten like 500 bucks for that and I would've cut you in! I just laughed because Wendell was a blackfoot felon still on parole but he said he natives were allowed to possess them and the feathers were still used in certain ceremonies. I had some fun fucking times with Wendell. 'Merica.

When my folks lived in Taos, their caretaker/handyman at the Inn always tried to sell us eagle feathers. I don't think Daryl got them through legal methods. We didn't want any part of that. That's a federal charge for us white boys.

I do volunteer work for the local raptor rescue, and they collect any and all dropped eagle feathers.
