So today I went to Twattface to ask Elon if it was OK for me to work from home since my employer has mandated it until mid January due to an office remodel. It's not letting me tag him. Does that mean I'm blocked? I can't even find him on the search box.. Fucking pussy!

Deactivated my twitter. That place is spiraling. Talk of elon selling data and people getting hacked. Its nice to keep up. Jack should buy it back for pennies on the dollar

Video more difficult and still pics and gifs even more difficult possibly. I don't know shit, but just logically it's an enormous task.

Certainly Trumptard has zero clue about that or anything aside from lying his ass off about everything.

This line of discussion is interesting to me. While the technology isn’t the direct product, the product is only any good if they can manage the content. All the problems twitter faces are massive technical challenges. It’s a lot different than “using computers,” and outside of scaling up workforce to match users and content creation (which creates its own challenges that are just as insurmountable) the only way to solve it is through increasingly sophisticated use of things like AI. It’s a massive opportunity for a team who can at least address these challenges. As platforms like Mastodon are finding, scaling is a bitch.

None of that is novel, of course. The world in general continues to shudder at the explosion of content and connection made possible by the Information Age.

It's obvious that a business like Twitter or Facebook can't fact check the way the NYT for example does. The only way their business model can exist is to let anyone post anything they want for free and once in a while take down something particularly egregious, after the damage has been done. The question is, should such a business model be allowed to exist. We have slander, fraud and libel laws for a reason. If I lie to a bunch of my friends that the owner of a pizza place is a pedophile and the pizza place goes out of business I can be sued and lose. Why should I be able to do it anonymously on SM and neither I nor the site can be held accountable? You're right--making social media responsible for their content would require hiring massive numbers of moderators or somehow managing to do the job with AI. But why you think that's an acceptable reason to give SM a pass on spreading lies and hate I don't understand.

^right. I agree, but why do people believe everything they read on the internet!! That's truly the problem, but that problem is insurmountable. So yeah, accountability needs to happen, but man that's a difficult one for a dentist like me to wrap my head around

I don’t think that. Where did I say that? Why would you put those words in my mouth? That’s super perplexing. Or were you addressing that to somebody else?

And whether or not social media is responsible for the content, the content is their product and they have to be able to manage it. The current chaos on display is a ready and obvious example. It’s no damn good if they can’t manage it effectively.
