    The Summer Training Thread

Hey folks, as you guys may know I am the fattest backcountry skier in Alaska (maybe even the world). And I feel that summer is a cesspool of barbecues, beer on the beach, and generally being depressed about the lack of snow. In a vain attempt to prepare myself for next season (its only like 6 months away), I propose this:

    A TGR summer training group.

Mostly I want a bunch of anonymous people annoying me when I don't go for it. (for some reason, health and attractiveness to women hasn't motivated me, but the desire to huck off 20 footers without breaking my body and strangers on the internet I'm pretty sure can)

Also, we should share summer training successes, programs and whatnot.

Perhaps there is a good mobile platform for this? (Ideas?)

    Thoughts?

You should move to Colradbrah. Every bro there is constantly training, for what I have no idea but they don't call anything recreation, it's all training!

shake weights and rollerblading. Combine the two at the same time to really hit your core.

Buy the book Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe, read the parts about lifting, ignore the parts about eating cheeseburgers. Once you're lifting regularly enough for it to be habit and not a chore, form your next habit of eating at least semi-right. Finally, get a mountain bike, for me it's a similar thrill to backcountry skiing, climbing uphill for a fun downhill.

    I'm in.

AK-Monkey: Northface has an app with different training regimes for different mountain sports. I think it's called "Mountain Athletics" or something similar. It's worth checking out. If you want to drop weight though, it's mostly about what you feed the body with. I did this a few years ago and used fitbit (it can be something similar, doesn't have to be fitbit, but heart rate monitoring is preferable as it gives more accurate calorie burns) and myfitnesspal. Very helpfull to see if you will be gaining or losing. Recommend the /r/loseit on redit.

Do the Wim Hof online course. There are 17,000+ members on their closed Facebook group and the commitment it requires is 99% of everything. Being in AK, I'm sure you'll be able to find cold water even in August. I lost 25lbs by accident. Frankly, I could write a 1000 words about the benefits.

You'll learn to develop strength from the inside out... from your capillaries to your skin. In my 25 years of working out for sport, the WHM has had the most profound impact on my health, strength, and well-being.

It'll make everything else (mountain biking, running, lifting) a hell of a lot easier, too.

Everyone-- if breath retention exercises & cold water aren't part of your training, you're missing out on an enormous scale.

(I think I'll start a review thread in the coming days.)

I just went to google earth and took a look at where your little slice of paradise is, pretty fucking nice area you're in. Based on your location I'd suggest buying a kayak and some hiking shoes. Eat a lot of salmon and walk/kayak your ass off. When you get home from work don't grab a beer until you do something physical. Get active early on the weekends before you go to that BBQ. If find that holding myself accountable not only keeps me healthy but makes that burger and beer taste better.

If that doesn't work upgrade your data plan so you can watch more porn, you'd be surprised how many calories you can burn jerking the chain, yanking your rope, flicking the twig, playing pocket pool, baiting the hook, beating the dummy, buffing the old banana. You smelling what I'm putting down?

Training for new alpinist is a good read. Also drink less beer, going from 3 beers to 1 beer a day helped me loose some

Trail running, mountain biking, weight lifting.

If your main goal is to lose weight, you have to do it in the kitchen. There's no way you can outrun a bad diet.

Yup I'm in. Now down to 4 beers a month, reduced shit food intake, started running again (1hr a week). Still a fat cunt at the moment. Reckon mid 40s I should figure out if I want to be a properly big fat cunt , or get my shit together. Because I'm not winning in sports anymore, I lost the mojo. But I want to enjoy sports and be around longer for my kids and be a good example.

Just be active all the time, you'll feel worlds better anyway. Start rock climbing, someone else suggested kayaking which is a load of fun. Run if you can deal with running. Hike. Walk everywhere conceivably possible.

Get a half bike, although weird looking, it looks like it could be good training for skiing
