    Armada JJ 2.0 +Climbing Skins?

Recently put some touring bindings on my JJs and I'm looking for skins now.

I see that Armada makes a specific skin for their JJ but are there better options?

It seems that the tail clip isnt as safe as the loop option on tip and tail.

    Can anyone speak to this?

I have the 185cm length JJ

I'm not opposed to cutting/trimming/modifying skins so if its not "PERFECT" that's fine

    Thanks

I use BD skins & clips and they stay on well enough, I would be scoping whatever is cheap right now at end of season and go W2W ... good time to be buying any gear

yeah ^^ skins are not the place to scrimp cuz backslideing into a treewell sucks so go for a 130mm skin and cut it down

try climbing skins direct or G3 has some deals right now but this time of year everybody should have deals

but give the rubber tip stretchers a pass cuz IME they get knocked off/ the rubber breaks

do get some kind of tail kit

I have a pair of those skins and I actually really like them. The rubber tip took a couple transitions to get dialed but I much prefer the 'skimo' style skin rip from the tip vs doing yoga when trying to grab the tail clip on most styles that are currently being offered. Also, those skins pack down to half the size of my accessions. Just make sure you buy wide enough skins to custom fit them wall to wall and keep them out of the snow.

It was bad enough 15yrs ago with skinny trad skis but now I constantly( like every run) knock the the rubber tips off of wide skis, also the rubber cracks/breaks eventualy SO I like either the G3 alpinist hooks or just a plain ring on the front and a tail strap, I don't mind taking the ski off to remove the skin ...ymmv

I also have a couple pair of lazer cut dynafit skins with dynafit style rubber tip stetcher & tail hook which I like a LOT

Seems like this might be the best and safest option?

You just using the G3 tail clip vs. the loop option?

    Hows that working?

I thought the tail clip slips off on people who have twin tipped skis?

I use the G3 alpinist on some 120 lotus which have a full wrap tail like my JJ and they stay on almost all the time, you can get a specific tail piece^^ for twin tips but I never bothered so it must be fine

    http://www.evo.com/climbing-skins/bl...nylon-sts.aspx

here is a BD skin off that link ^^ you posted and they are 30$ cheaper than the armada, this is basicly what I am using on my JJ's and it works fine

They are probably OK but I duno who make the armada stuff, I have never seen those connecters but the thing with any climbing skin IS any tip or tail connection with rubber is gona get skied over beat up/broken/rotten so the good thing with G3 or BD is the Tips are bomber enough to not break, the tails are easily replaceable, replacement tail leashes are available everywhere and for a klutz like me the tips don't get knocked off ever

Stopping to put the tail clip back on your JJ's will be a good excuse to rest while you're lugging that heavy rig around the backcountry. Otherwise get the twin tip connector kit that XXX-er refers to above.

Since i'm new to the TOURING world am I right to assume that people are able to take their skins off/Put on without stepping out of their skis?

Most people with reasonable flexibility should be able to remove the skins without taking their skis off; almost no one puts them on with skis attached (it can be done, just not very accurately).

I was thinking about doing this since I can get em for $110

    http://4frnt.com/products/trailbreak...iant=944397413

Then putting this on the tails:

    https://www.rei.com/product/792578/b...able-tip-loops

    Since they're 20% off

    What you guys think?

Taking skins off is not so hard so more people do, putting them on is harder so less people do, I just stop & take the skis off at top & bottom

I don't use the JJ's much anymore they are my 3rd level touring/rock skis but I never noticed the BD or G3 tails coming off very often so like I said just try the clip that comes on the BD or G3 tail leashes before buying the TT connector kit

I think the G3 clip will easily retro fit on the tail leash of either brand?

uh thats^^ a tip loop NOT a tail loop, its a good tip loop but it won't work for what you want

    http://www.backcountry.com/g3-alpini...F0NTExMDAwMzE=

    35% off & freeshipping

    http://www.backcountry.com/g3-twin-t...NhdDUxMDAwMDM5

and ^^ some of these 30% off will definatley wrok fine

So tip and tail loops are not interchangeable?

I saw these on Backcountry website:

    http://www.backcountry.com/backcount...bing-skin?rr=t

Would these be another alternate option?

As soon as I get into the longer and wider version of the G3 it starts jumping up in price...kinda a cheapskate :/

You probably could but you need to be able to get at least one tip or tail off so if you use 2 tip connectors on a skin you won't get them on or off

The G3 TT connectors & tail leash are pretty solid but still have enough give to get the tail leash off

make sute you choose the right length and width but yeah you can save a little $ and I am willing to bet those skins are made for BC.com by G3

remeber considering the $ you are saving buying skins that are too short or too narrow is not the palce to save money ...you would remeebr XXX-er said this whilst sitting on your ass after backsliding into a tree well

If you're interested at all I have a pair of these I was going to sell for cheap...

    http://www.backcountry.com/montana-montana-nylon

They're decent and seem durable. They've been used one time and were cut for a 186 Dynafit Huascaran. $55/shipped

Huascarans are 114 under foot, JJ is 115 so it sounds like they will be very close, if the skins were 130mm before trimming, includes the tip loop ... should work just fine
