Front flip to fucked shins?
On thursday I sent a front flip into deep pow and now have torn muscular tissue in my shins (tibialis anterior muscle, google it). i'm heartbroken. i've already spent 12 weeks recovering from a bruise in my tibial plateau and now i'm off skis again for however long this takes.
has anyone ever experienced this before? I cranked my boots down way really hard before i sent this cliff and it appears as though my body attempted to continue forward/downhill motion even though my skis/boots were stuck in place (i took the cliff to my back on purpose, it was probably 30 feet). thus, the power strap area on my boot acted as a fulcrum around which everything above the power strap rotated, stressing the muscles in my shins.
should i have kept my boots on the loose end when taking a cliff to the back?

How old are you? I ask because you were trying to recover from a bruised tibia then you decide to throw a front flip off something? Its called risk reward. What was the reward (close to 0 I am assuming) for the risk? If you tore your TA, you are truly fucked.
Anyway, take it from some of the older guys here,. You want to ski till your 70, dont do stupid shit right have an injury. Just my 2 cents.
One last thing, Front flips are lame, unless it is a lawn dart.

I believe this is the proper technique:
Good luck with the recovery.

Seems that the only way to tear that is by over plantar flexing the muscle. If you got too far forward you would be shortening the muscle, the action it's supposed to take.
From the still, I bet you slapped back then continued over the bars. The injury likely occurred on the slapped back portion.
How was this diagnosed? MRI is really the only way, not likely to be done immediately after the injury but a week or so later.
If you went into the cuff hard enough to sever the muscle I bet you would have broken your tibia.
Nothing to add on recovery, just question the diagnosis.I rip the groomed on tele gear

You want us to help diagnose your injury over the internet? Does this look like WebMD to you??? We're just a bunch of dentists here so unless you need advice on something tooth related you're out of luck...

i saw an MD right after it happened. she poked at my leg, felt the bone and whatnot, and determined it was muscular. i saw a sports med specialist today (the first doc i went to is out of town till next week) and he did an ultrasound. no muscles torn or tendon damage, just a deep bruise. he told me give it time.
good and bad news i suppose. having ski boots on is still pretty painful; i'm thinking i'll be out a couple weeks more. injury plagues blow.
