TR: Tonquin Valley, Jasper National Park

3 pics and only a few more words.

This is a long slog in and more for scenery than anything else. Got some meadow skipping in along the way of my 75km+ over 5 days, with a day at the Edith Cavell hostel on the way in, and another 3 days at the ACC Wates-gibson hut.

Very pretty and isolated area, and there are certainly options to get more rad than I did, but I was solo so not pushing it.

Cool! Was there this past September. What a beautiful place. Hope to be able to get in there during the winter someday. I bet you had the whole massive hut to yourself!

I'm surprised there isn't more snow

Don't think I know what that is. Assuming it's a peak?

There were others in the hut each night, but nowhere near full.

El nino and it's warm temps are messing with this area.

There's actually around 2m or so snow pack back by the hut, but on the trail in near Edith Cavell hostel you can see the dirt around the trunks of the trees.... very thin.

You didn't do some Google Earthing before heading up? It's the big one on the left after Edith Cavell. Some of the best looking descents on the dry side around there. I ask because the fans are frequently blown down to scree all winter. 1000m north couloir.

From a col near Drawbridge Peak (on the Ramparts)

^^^ No google earthing, no... was just going for a walk in the mountains, for the most part, and the route descriptions and hut coordinates seemed like more than enough info to carry.

I think this might be the same peak, taken from a bit up valley away from the highway...

... in which case, yes, the fans appear to blown dry.

However, this was another couloir that would be appealing to you...

Pretty sure that's still the same mountain, but a bit down valley towards the highway.

It looked like it went all the way to the fan (which was rocky and thin, but mostly covered), but it did not appear to completely top out... there was a rock band at the top from what I could see.

Well it's finally time! Hut is booked in April for 7 nights. Gonna be a hell of a slog getting in there with that much food but it should be an incredible trip. Hoping to ski some big couloirs and long descents
