i mentioned it elsewhere but the boy and i were watching some ski videos and a guy skiing in jeans came on. the boy started laughing hysterically "HE'S SKIING IN JEANS!! WHY IS HE SKIING IN JEANS !!!

later we saw some "cowboys" at timberline skiing in jeans, big wool jackets and cowboy hats.

Was mortified to ski in jeans as the outer layer the first time I skied. Or two. Then got a pair of electric blue ski bibs from Sears I was so fired up. Then got sent to boarding/reform school a few miles from massanutten where everyone skied in jeans. It was like “hey bud. We’re ssooo good at this we never fall.”

We called them "warm ups" (bright green CB brand were the coolest)- on an average weather day it was warm ups over jeans, cold days add long underwear as a 3rd layer, warm days just the jeans. Never really got the insult (except maybe to call someone poor because they can't afford ski pants, which Cheney most definitely is not)

Only truly lame without proper gaiters?

I ski in jeans quite a bit.... under my ski pants. Just peel off the ski pants in the parking lot down to jeans for the 3 hour drive home from the mountain. When staying on the mountain or close by I often wear lounge pants under the ski pants instead of thermals.. unless it's wicked cold of course..
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

I remember skiing in jeans for a few years when I was younger. I was only skiing a few times a year at that point, and renting equipment, so I didn’t have ski pants.

When I learned as a kid, I had knickers, and long socks. And, well also, leather ski boots with laces, and wood skis.

I don't know why, but seeing people skiing in jeans makes me smile.

A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.

Yes. It's in the east and it's better than skiing powder, apparently.
