Veteran stand-up comedian Ian Cognito has died on-stage during a performance.
The comic is said to have "sat on a chair and laid back for five minutes" during his show at the The Atic bar in Bicester on Thursday.
Audience members told the BBC they thought his silence was "part of the act" and had continued to laugh, unaware he had fallen ill.
South Central Ambulance Service confirmed Cognito was pronounced dead at the scene.
John Ostojak attended the gig at the Lone Wolf Comedy Club with a friend, and said the comic "did a really good set".
"Only 10 minutes before he sat down he joked about having a stroke," Mr Ostojak said.
"He said, 'imagine having a stroke and waking up speaking Welsh'."
When Cognito sat down towards the end of his set, Mr Ostojak said: "We thought it was part of the act.
"We came out feeling really sick, we just sat there for five minutes watching him, laughing at him."
The compere eventually approached the stage, and got someone to call an ambulance.
Staff attempted to perform chest compressions and asked the audience to leave while they waited for help to arrive
“I have a responsibility to not be intimidated and bullied by low life losers who abuse what little power is granted to them as ski patrollers.”

Thank god you decided to become a stoner instead is all I can say.

This cat was in my hospital room in SLC feeding me vape hits a year ago December. So I mean it about the thank jeebus shit. That was good. I was a little sketched at the time I will admit. But I was in the hospital, broken, on opioids, and already scamming with my Juul vape when no one was looking. Didn't want to fuck that up.

In retrospect, the times when you were a little sketched are always the best times.

    When people pronounce L'ecole "Lay-e-coal."

I was just talking to someone who apparently thought I was the one in the wrong because everytime I said "l-eh coal" she would mispronounce it back to me.

Whatever. She was off to the tasting room. I'm sure it's like fingernails on a chalk board to them. They can school her (no pun intended)

Around here... all the time. I live just down the road from L'Ecole in Frenchtown.

The Schoolhouse is located in historic Frenchtown, a small community just west of Walla Walla, Washington. The image of the Schoolhouse is the cornerstone of the L’Ecole brand and has been the centerpiece of our wine labels since the winery’s inception in 1983. The original Frenchtown School was a log cabin built in 1870 along the shore of the Walla Walla River. It was rebuilt in 1915 at our present location and renamed the Lowden School.

Frenchtown derived its name from the many French Canadians who settled in the Walla Walla Valley during the early 1800s. Legend has it these men of French descent raised grapes and produced wine. By the 1860s nurseries, vineyards, and winemaking had become a part of the valley’s growing economy. The winery name, L’Ecole N° 41 – French for “the school” located in school district 41 – was chosen to salute these pioneer viticulture efforts.

Our restored Tasting Room occupies one of the two classrooms, preserving the old Schoolhouse character with original chalkboards, light fixtures, fir floors, and moldings. In the cellar, you will find a children’s water fountain as well as a restored mural, originally hand-painted by the school children for their Christmas pageant.

The image on our current label is a painting of the Schoolhouse based on a photograph taken in 1915, when it was newly built. The label captures the heart and soul of the winery’s heritage and underscores the winery’s historical roots in the Walla Walla Valley. L’Ecole is an authentic, artisan Washington brand, built on experience and innovation, and known for distinctive wines of the highest quality.
