    Nice Hut.

And last year's motogp season was consistently mind blowingly good - perhaps best ever. I hope they haven't fucked it up with new tires and standardized electronics. It all seems to suit Jorge so far in testing.

An word if MotoGP is ever coming back to Laguna Seca? The traffic to/from it is a nightmare in a car so I never went. Got a bike, and they stopped racing. Worse place to build a race track, but once there it is awesome.

The cork screw might be one of my favorite features of any track I have ever seen.

The F1 race is uncertain for the long term future in Austin because of funding problems. Bikes could end up moving to laguna I suppose?

The most I got was 212 miles until reserve. One hundred miles into a ride I realized I had no wallet, no cash, no id, et al. I milked that sucker for every mpg to make it to a friend's work where I could borrow a few bucks. Made it with 3/4 miles to spare. Barrowed enough for a gallon of gas and a much needed beer. Got 160 to reserve at 70-75mph freeway miles. Not sure how much gas there is on reserve, probably about a half gallon. I thought it was a 5 gallon tank, but it appears to be 4. So to a dry tank, about 200-225 I suspect.

It is scary as shit the first few times, at least in a car. Maybe not so bad (or worse) on a bike. Totally blind corner. Turn in at the top of 8a, no track visible, so you just point the car at a particular tree. Just as you hit bottom and feel the tires grip it's time to turn for 8b, then it is a fast down hill run through 9 and 10 before braking like a MoFo to not hit the wall in 11. Super fun because you hardly brake from 8a until smoking 'em at 11.

Lowside at 70mph, but I only broke a finger and walked away.
Damn. The suit helps. I high sided at 55mph on a gravel road once and broke two fucking ribs, among other things. Track seems safer than the gravel back roads with pavement tires. :0

After getting a fat lip today from a tree branch with a MX helmet and goggles, got me thinking street with a shield. Now not so much.
The way I ground my helmet face down, it would've been a miracle if my shield didn't pop out.

I was pissed at myself more than anything.
$3,000 was an expensive lesson to learn.

It was not easy to get to on a bike, either.
Most bikes got over heated during stop and go traffic.
My thighs were cooked by the time we got to the track.

    It really did.

Ground helmet. Full face I believe saved my life. Much like your pic, mine was ground too, from sliding on my head, face down-ish. Above the temple it was worn quite a way through into the foam, shell totally shredded. I have to believe my melon woulda split and my brains wulda been smeared for quite a stretch.

About 3! More than that and I need a break. It's a lot of fun. Feels like a little toy.

No fairings, or exhaust, or wiring, or stock lights, etc, makes it super light. You can literally throw it around. I notice the diet allot when braking. Fast, too.

So, I am looking at a donor bike build that get's me close to where I want to be at the start, then will fabricate from there.
Also, brute power isn't the desired end result in this case, lots of big bore low/mid end grunt is, which is why I like the XR/XL variants...
That and they are super user friendly from a service standpoint.

Sorry - I am more of a 6 day guy...
If you are looking for a good (great) starting chassis, how about an XR650R. Way better bike to start with, but you have to put on the street legal bits and deal with titleing it. Which can be easy or hard, depending on where you live. I am thinking of something similar. I ride a KTM 300 for full dirt time, but I have it plated for gassing up in out of the way towns. I"m looking for a better all around, pavement, gravel, dirt machine, to ad to the stable. However, I would not consider air cooled XR's, XL's, DR's since they weigh a ton, are low on power, and have outdated suspension.

Ridiculous. The jumps and power wheelie moments were my biggest pucker factors in that vid.

Crazy. Over a minute slower than the "production" car record though, yikes.

For just about all the reasons you mention I am considering the L.
For what I want to do the air cooled is fine, I like the way it makes power and it's very easy to service.
I will be making a few minor tweaks that are more in line with the "R" air cooled model however.
As far as the suspension is concerned, for gravel forest service roads, there is plenty to work with both from a stock and a donor perspective.

I know what you mean though...
I roll an XC-W and it's heads and tails better on dirt than any XR variant.

Be interesting to see what a motogp bike would do around there.

If you could find anyone brave enough to try it.

I'm pretty sure I'll break my neck on a MotoGP bike.
That's WAY too much excitement for me to handle.

Probably not much faster than those tricked out liter bikes. It's too curvy, which is why the cars go so much faster (better cornering.)
