It's like those douchebags Downtown who order Ciroc and Tonics. What a fucking joke.

I didn't say it was a regular thing, just that I've had DJ Anejo in a margarita before and it was good. But in general I'm not going to mix anything with that stuff - it's for sipping / shots.

Shaken well w/lots of ice, served up in salt-rimmed cocktail glass.
So I realized that I had picked up a bottle of Espolon Reposado a while back on someone's recommendation in the cocktail thread. Just made a margarita on the rocks with it and it's delicious. $24 for the bottle is absolutely doable. It's even really good straight.

Never had the Añejo, but the others are very good, especially at the price point.

...and of course. Making a margarita with an Añejo makes the baby Hay-soos cry.

    It's national margarita day

While I would never order Anejo in a Margarita I do find that Reposados have a rounder, less sharp taste than Blancos at the same price point and that shit adds up over an evening. Who drinks ONE margarita?
There are some triple secs that are really good, but they'll be the 80 proof stuff, not the overly sweet/flavored crap like Hiram Walker, which is about 25 proof.

    Citronge is good stuff

I'm a big fan of Espolòn Reposado. Great mixing tequila and can usually be found for under $25 a bottle.

If I feel like mixing it up, I'll do
    2 parts tequila
    2 parts fresh lime juice
    1 part Cointreau
    Splash of agave

I prefer Cointreau over Grand Marnier for both taste and presentation. GM makes the margarita a little brown.
Thanks for the bump. I’ve mixed up my recipe a bit...

    1 part tequila
1 part mezcal (adds a nice smokey flavor)
    2 parts fresh lime juice
    1 part Cointreau
    Splash of agave

This makes me sad. CO Mexican food is so much better than TN.

I did have some righteous tacos today, at Taqueria San Luis. Shits fire.

I mentioned it earlier in this thread (last year) - best deal out there IMO. Right after graduating college (2003) some friends and I went down to Can Cun / Playa Del Carmen as sort of a last ditch let's be idiot kids sort of thing before we have to be grown-ups. This stuff was everywhere and we loved it, and it had yet to make it into the US. A few years later, it's everywhere. Funny how that can happen so quickly.

National margy day and I'm sick... I think I'm going to have to power through and have at least one, though.

Woo Hoo... three margaritas in since my last post and ready for more! I love excuses to drink margaritas!...

1 part fresh squeezed lime juice
1 part tequila (I'm partial to Espolon Reposado)
    1 part mezcal
    1 part Cointreau
    splash raw agave syrup

Mix in cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into martini glass rimmed with smoked salt.

    ooh so good!

    2.5 oz good blanco

1 oz fresh key lime juice

1 oz high quality triple sec...Cointreau is the classic, but expensive.

    1 oz simple syrup

Shake well with ice and strain. Salt or not is up to you

DO NOT LET GRAND MARNIER ANYWHERE NEAR THE DRINK
