    Love/Hate Relationships

    What've you got?

Currently I'm dealing with one in yoga - Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (pigeon pose). Hurts so good once I manage to relax into it.

Same! Just on that leg though (like in the pic) because I have a tweaky knee. Also eagle pose, love it when I can hold it, want to scream and punch the instructor in the face on those days when balance is off.

I used to like this one but there seems to be quite some strain on the bent knee and one of mine is kinda hurting anyway. So it's more of a hate/avoid now...

huge hip openers like that and Bhekasana/frog are famous for bringing the emotions out, whether you want to or not.
the retreat i've attended a few times always does some super long holds in those....like a 7-minute frog. ugh...
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

You know, I'm actually having a L/H relationship with that too but in a different way. A glass of wine sounds good but in practice I'm just not interested anymore and it kinda bums me out.

Yeah, about that site, she seems a little too perky. Might not be able to handle that. While I LOVE her how-to on the pigeon pose I think I HATE a lot of her other content. LOL!!!

A glass sounds good, but in practice turns into many. I love to drink, but the sugar in it really disagrees with me these days. So ya, a love/hate relationship for sure. I love to ski, but that 6+ hour drive to Mammoth each way sucks. Definitely love and hate there.

I have always said that for any working mountain town dweller the relationship with tourists and the tourism industry is one of love and hate. You need them to survive but you can't wait until they are gone.

Why do they call it the pigeon pose?

Never seen a pigeon do anything like that.

Cuz nobody would attempt it if they named it something more consistent with what it looks like. I mean, who's gonna ask their yoga instructor to help them get into the "fucking uncomfortable lying down with leg pinned beneath your torso" pose?
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
    Cletus: Duly noted.

Maybe it should be called "dead pigeon in the road"

King pigeon actually looks kinda-sorta like a pigeon:

My Astro van. Love the adventures I've had in it, hate that it is giving me such maintenance headaches.

Thinking it will be replaced soon by something built by the Japanese.

the root 'kapota' means pigeon in sanskrit, added to asana for pose. Whole different posture when you add in the raja [king] then the eka pada [one legged]. Regular kapotasana is a bitch- start kneeling, then reaching both arms over your head as you lean back until your [not my] elbows are on the ground and you're grabbing for your heels, kind of tucking your head between your feet. Like a resting pigeon maybe?
