Consider making Telluride your home mountain? Have a lookypoo at Delores- more of a commute, but likely more affordable (I haven't looked). And instead of Durango, Bayfield may be a cheaper option, just ten-fifteen minutes east of Durango, and there exist back roads to escape Hwy 160.

Baytucky isn't exactly cheap anymore. And it might only be twenty minutes to town, but it's another twenty through town.
Good news is, the Klan is mostly gone over there now, so that's a plus.
