I like the new (ish) terminal at SLC. Fly in, grab your shit, walk across the sky bridge to Avis, grab the rental, head out. Drop off rental, check your shit, head to the Sky Club. When I commuted to Elko the parking/shuttles were pretty good. Never more than a ten minute wait for a bus. Never more than a two minute walk to the shuttle pick up spot. I like SLC.

Agree. More airports should have the rental garage connected to the terminal like that. It’s sooooo much easier.

It's a great new terminal and the easiest I've experienced for getting your ski gear checked, but man they need to figure out how to get their rental cars turned over quicker. Last time I was in I bailed on my Hertz reservation because all they had was a couple rwd Chargers and a Tesla unless I wanted to wait for a 4wd. Same with the next few counters. Finally Enterprise got me a Jeep after 2 hours of waiting all in.

Another good airport experience is the new Newark, NJ terminal A. Its like New Jersey finally made it out of the Stone Age with their main airport. Drop off your rental, walk across the sky bridge, check your shit, cruise the mall and do some people watching. EWR has always been good for people watching.

The CRJ9 was holding short of Runway 8 Right on Taxiway Hotel (too lazy to draw wings, and the tail is already gone!)

The Airbus A350-9 was given the following clearance by ground control (female voice), “Delta 295 Heavy, hold short of Victor and advise when ready”

So they were taxiing westbound on Taxiway Echo (from right to left) and once they passed Hotel they said, “Alright, we just hit something on the taxiway. Could you tell us what it was?”

Ground Control Supervisor cutting in (male voice): “I just noticed that the tail on the RJ is missing. Endeavor 5526, hold your position. And do you require any immediate assistance?”

Ground Controller (female voice): “Delta 295, hold short of Victor. It does appear that you struck the RJ that’s holding short of eight right.”

Delta: "Ok, that’s what we hit. Yeah, we were on the centerline. Instructions were Echo short of Victor."

^^^ that’s an attempted ass cover, but they’re at fault.

Regardless of your clearance, you’re driving. It’s called “in command” for a reason. You hit something (baggage cart, light post, another airplane) - even if it’s an honest mistake - your ass is going to the chief pilot’s office for some 'splainin'.

So what they should have done is stopped with the nose of the aircraft on the green circle with the red line - even if the tail of the RJ was inside of the blue line - unless they absolutely knew their wing would clear it. And I don’t mean go over top.

Or, an alternative would’ve been to request to move over to Taxiway Foxtrot (if there wasn’t any traffic on it)

I’m in the processing of connecting LHR->SLC->IDA

SLC is the best international arrival experience that I have ever had in the US.

From the time the seatbelt sign was turned off to the time I was through customs and to the other side of security was less than 5 minutes.

The new no passport scan global entry was so quick. I made it halfway for the CPB officer desk from the global entry kiosk and they called me by my first name and waved me through past others in the normal line.

SLC has a dedicated security line for internationally connecting passengers unlike many other US airports.

It also has a dedicated and clean bathroom on the other side of said security line.

IMHO SLC is the best large airport in the US. I wish it had direct flights to Asia and S America.

Absolutely agreed. We frequent Mexico and it’s sooooo easy to come home.

I fly to and through other airports and do feel spoiled SLC is my home airport.

I try to sit in the first row of C+ and on the A330’s and A350’s they filter out about the same time as DeltaOne, so you aren’t too far back. Walking with purpose and not checking bags, plus global entry has you out of customs very quickly, 5 minutes is realistic.

People are starting to use the dedicated international TSA as a hack to get through security faster, with Precheck it isn’t much faster, but it is faster than gen pop TSA upstairs. I think they should close that entrance from the main part of the airport and have it truly dedicated to people who have connections, as they are often tight.

I recently heard the rumor that a SLC- Buenos Aires non-stop is being investigated. I really hope that happens.

That was also a regular thing with our old airport. When I traveled a lot for work, I did this exclusively as you could park and walk very easily to it in minutes with the old configuration. No bus no fuss.

Doesn’t seem nearly as convenient with the new airport honestly.

That's pretty cool. My company has some business in Seoul next year. I think a two day lay over for some skiing is in order before getting back on the plane to S.K. And the same happening on the return trip.

You should have seen it before. (Personally I think it's fine. A simple airport for a simple town. Now if you want to see a dump, take the train. The vintage depot has zero vintage charm. It's a huge empty cavernous hall where no one spends any time. It's at least a 15 minute walk to the tracks, exposed to weather. When they decided Sacramento needed a "multi-modal transportation hub" they moved the tracks to straighten the alignment but kept the station because of its history and because light rail goes there. )

Dropped my wife off at RNO yesterday. Glad to see they've finished the remodel outside. I guess that must mean it's time for them to tear up the I80/395 interchange again. I like small airports like SMF and RNO, the downside being that there's no direct flights to anywhere I want to go.
