Inbounds is covered with supergoats. Curious on real world feedback between the widths.

I think this was mentioned earlier but for the goats 108 = not asym, if that matters to you.

Man, those are extremely competitive weights. For the the type of skis that they are the weight seems like borderline perfection, especially as the 50/50 version enables one to split the difference.

    Question for you gurus

    Looking at an 18' kartel 116 188's
    Custom layup, seller says:
soft CF, 19oz fiberglass, stock layup.
    Sidewall: black
    Little bit softer than stock.

Anyone have first hand feedback on a similar layup? I'm on the woods108 right now, looking for my west coast resort powder day.

also, side note, edge has been cracked.... sent back to on3p factory for repair and patch, been solid since. worth worrying about? only ski'd for one season.

My wife’s Wrenegade 88’s have that same layup. For her size/weight, she loves it. I’ve skied a few runs on them and the flex is fairly similar to the way they describe others as “round.”

If you are using it as dedicated pow ski I think the softer than stock flex will be fine. I am about your size and no specific Kartel experience to speak of but somewhat familiar w ON3P flex patterns. This will not “feel” like a soft ski. In more variable terrain you’d probably want to go stock but not 116.

Not a direct comparison between current tour 108 and 116, but I have the Steeple 108 in a 184 and the standard 189 BG. 108 punches above its waist width, but if I was shopping for a primarily soft snow touring ski now I would be looking pretty hard at the wider width. The 108 isn’t as loose. It floats fine, but it doesn’t surf and smear as well or carry speed through lower angle sections as well. That said, it’s also easier to manage on the way up and definitely works better on firm variable, so it really depends on the terrain/snow you have access to. Short version for me is 108 is maybe a bit more versatile as a backcountry tool and skis pow better than its waist width would suggest. Standard BG kills pow and does everything else reasonably. Pick your poison based on where you tour and how much snow you see. YMMV and I’m interested in other people’s takes on this too.

exactly... these will be only for days with some some fresh snow. Otherwise the woods108 will get the call.

    thanks

I have 18/19 K108s in 176 with the softer flex. I agree with others that while they are softer for ON3P they still felt stiff to me when compared to other “soft” skis (I haven’t skied a hugely diverse spectrum of skis though since I fell in love with ON3Ps early, so take that with a grain of salt). Add another grain of salt as I went with the stock flex for my new sticks this year - had nothing to do with not liking the flex pattern. As I’m typing this I’m realizing this probably isn’t helpful, but here it is anyway 🤣

While mine aren’t the tour layup, I can’t wait to get a pair of bindings back on them. You’re right, it’s a completely impractical ski to own on the east coast, but when you get 6” of snow and don’t wanna feel the bottom, they’re awesome. Also super fun on sloppy spring days when you just wanna mob through everything on a tranny finding mission.

Wait till you feel how they ski too. Hats off to the crew at the factory this year.

If my memory serves me right then all Kartel116s were given 19oz for 2019 to reduce the weight a bit without loosing much dampness, so these should ski like slightly rounder flex stock 2019 k116s. They will perhaps have a smidge less ability in variable than the stock layup, but still be better than most comparable skis wrt to dense/variable as the mid part of the ski will still be fairly supportive. They should be an awesome soft snow ski for skiers with a centered stance.

I went the other way with a custom build - 19oz and extra carbon - but never fully clicked them. I think both 19/less carboing option and stock layup compliment the design better, at least for me being a fairly light weight and no giant.

Finally got to experience Billy Goats yesterday and had a ton of fun, can't wait to bring em out again.

With all the ~tech~ in em, I'm wondering if there's specific terrain/techniques/whatever I should be testing out to better appreciate all the BGs have to offer? Was at Crystal lapping Chair 6 with em so mostly chopped up powder was my main course. They felt stable as hell charging downhill, I felt I was doing them a great injustice whenever they weren't pointed, but I was definitely flying down runs a lot faster than I typically do. Groomers were surprisingly enjoyable, packed moguls were not (shocker!). Airtime was way more comfortable than I knew was possible. Pretty nimble working my way through some of the questionable ridgelines and along narrow paths. So yeah, what else am I missing out on? I'm also evaluating for future BG108 vs WD108 tour setup, so I wanna get a better feel for all the pros/cons.

Nice guys! What are they skuff?

Gman the 88's were super intuitive for me. Super fun playful groomer ripper.. The Wren 99 took me a while to come around to, but after some great days on them last spring I'm convinced they have a place in my quiver. If I was 20 years younger and stronger I'd fucking love em.

    ^^^ Jeffrey 108 @ 191 ^^^

All that talk several pages back about where I should mount the 186 Jeffrey I bought made me think I would be better off with a longer pair as well
