1 has to the first number, for mental advantage. I like this hypothetical ski that might not not not be hypothetical. I would purchase it.

The feel is gonna get compromised to get the weight but that's ok.
This dream ski (for me) is a quiver dweller. Tour specialist, light tech clamps... light enough to do 8kft days and never really ski the resort.
The current line already has the resort layup dialed and can be brought on short tours and sidecountry and be the #travelskis

Still keeping the edges & base....
Seriously, this can’t turn into yet another ON3P thread....

Guessing they wouldnt let that happen. Id like one but i wouldnt want to expect unrealistic weight expectations to make it happen. Especially without a steeple in the current line up(cough 108)

I do not know, but my wren96s in 179 weigh
wren96 w/Atomic Backland bindings 2274
wren96ti w/ Castified Pivot 18s with touring toe 3040
wren96ti w/ Castified Pivot 18s with Look toe 3464
I asked ON3P to send me their lightest pair of standard wren96s, and if I remember correctly they were around 1860gr a ski - and within a few grams of each other. I am really excited about getting on them opting to sell BMT90s, Mantra V-Werks and 4FRNT Ravens.
A tour core ski would be a bit softer/rounder in its flex.
A standard ski with a tour core is not what I am wanting. A Wren96 is no 2x4 to start with, so the idea was to get something a bit lighter, but equally stiff. As such, a new core that gives up a bit in terms of bamboo feel for weight while remaining stiff and tolerably damp should be an instant hit. ON3Ps plane so well that their touring skis do not necessarily need a softer/rounder flex imho (ddisclaimer - I have never tried a steeple, so I could be talking out of my ass like usual).
The only real space in my quiver where I can justify getting a new ski is something like a wren108 shape with a lighter core, but with a bit of titanal for grip and damp addingness. So light enough in other words, but still able to rage. And yeah, I too would want full blown edges and bases to make the skis as robust as possible for when sharks wanna nibble on them. If that could be built in around 1800-1900 then I would be very interested. I also think something like that could sell quite well as a standard ski as well - though I would not really want that for resort riding myself I love how standard wren108s ride

Thanks for the info. I was interested in a tour wren 96 for skiing the volcanoes in the spring.
I am not in good enough shape to carry anything to wide or heavy. The 96 would also be nice whenever the snow does not soften up as expected.

Yeah - sounds good and no problem.
I think my pair slot in just where I want them to be in terms of weight, stiffness and so on for their inteded use. They are light enough for the up, but should ski awesomely on the down. Very excited to get on them for sure. I also simply cannot wait to try them back to back with wren96tis

Considering ON3P was started on the premise that somebody on a forum could indeed design and build better skis than what was available at the time - a venture they have succeded in to a large part (their touring range arguably upon occasion being an exception for certain segments) - I for one do find the sentiment of misguided consumer feedback through a forum slightly funny.
That being said - separating feedback gold from dead ends with limited profitability is probably hard a times, and is quite possibly what gives Iggy a reason to drink. However - hopefully some construction tweaks can be made enabling a construction that will make their already stellar designs ride in a way worthy of being offered as an ON3P ski, while being within what the market would want to buy within the touring segment. The world is not lacking for stellar touring skis, but it is lacking from ON3Ps being offered as them. More people deserve to get on ON3Ps as they ride amazingly well and have a build quality that is second to none, touring people included
As for the Betel debacle - I dunno, mistakes were made all around there. It is kinda hard to sumarize it as the main protagonist veered between demonstrating the emotional stability of a teen with borderline personality disorder who figured crack was needed to level out on one end, to providing very insightful and hugely helpful contributions at other.I guess we all fluctuate a bit. Then again, it is my understanding that SGs did not come about because of Betel or his feedback, but that his very vocal asking to be allowed to buy a pair might have contributed to that the custom runs were offered. I have no idea.
The points are moot regardless. Iggy ain't working on nothing, no news to follow - no full edge/base reworked touring ski to follow at some time. Phew - I do not need more skis, so that is welcome news

That said, I may or may not have been bugging Scott for a lighter weight core for a long time.

I like my 14 OG BG and tried assemetry version. It felt a bit hooky and more directional But day I tried conditions were not great. But grabbed OG from car and they were fine. Would like to try Cease and desist. Pair at local shop but guy wants 400 with major tail damage.

Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Exactly. Do my important bidding.
I've been quietly bitching about the weight of the tour line for years. The time seemed right to actually demonstrate demand from the armchair gallery.
His shapes have become defining standards for powder performance even amongst strong competition, some of which seem to have an uncertain future (Praxis, DPS). And with a well-developed inbounds line already grabbin pussy, it seemed plausible that he'd step into more serious touring builds... now not not confirmed as an actual interest.Last edited by Norseman; 11-17-2019 at 01:13 PM.
