I'm kind of surprised they did it this way. I would of assumed a standard core with a tour base would result in better performance.

I remember Scott saying they tried many options and found the only way to get the weight down to what would reasonably be considered a tour ski was to change the core composition.

A 50/50 consisting of a regular core and thinner base/edge would "just" be an industry standard ski (outside of Faction, J-Skis and some others? who also offers wider edges/thicker bases). Most brands use thinner bases and edges for their touring lineups, while ON3P slims them down to what most other brands run for their resort skis.

For me the current 50/50 layup makes the most sense -> lower weight, while retaining most of the damp feeling of bamboo+extra thick bases + ON3P base indestructability (even if the pawlonia parts of the core is less dense so can take less abuse / direct impacts than the bamboo).

As for 50/50 vs regular construction - I have not skied my regular wd110s and wd110s back to back to any significant degree, but thus far the differences are as you'd expect -> very similar flex pattern, slightly more stability / damp ride from regular vs slightly lower swing weight with 50/50.

I always planned to use my 50/50 skis for touring over in the resort, so I went 50/50 over tour to get more of ON3P's legendary ability to shrug off ski killing blows for most other skis and the stiffer 50/50 flex pattern as compared to slightly softer tour layup. I would do the same over again, though I would probably have asked very nicely if they could have made me 50/50 version of a first year wd108 over a 50/50 wd110 (the wd110 flex pattern would have fit me better when I got my wd108s, and the 108 flex pattern fits me better now - oh the irony).

Do it, the only down side to the jeff tour is ya can’t really sink the tails on kick turns. The 110T has been my touring DD all season in the Sierras. I also have a 118T has only been out 6-8x I think. But the 110 floats high above its waist width in soft snow I’m 210 in the birthday suit on a 186

Skied my C&Ds in a foot yesterday and remembered why I love them so much. Great on runouts, steep pow and low angle. Easy and quick fun

I wonder if I would prefer that ski with a flat/flatter ramp than sth2 offers…sold mine before putting a second set of holes in them. Mild regret? The ski I have in that slot is definitely more to my liking overall. Just remembering how good the CD could be on soft days.

I’m nursing a quad injury so I’m not dropping cliffs or skiing super hard yet, but the 187 BG 118 tour is super fun! Despite sharing the same rocker profile as the 187 Woodsman 110 tour, it is significantly looser and slarvier. It is seriously so fun and charges also hard. And they handle funky conditions, crust, dust on crudt, etc super well.

Really the only downside is the pintail shape washes out on steep, firm snow. If you’re mostly just meadow skipping or keep your skis pointed down the fall line, the BG 118 tour is really awesome. But I still seriously prefer the Woodsman 110 tour if there’s a possibility of jump turning down steep, firm entrances.

I seriously wish I had bought a pair of BG tours earlier. I don’t think the stock tour layup is particularly soft either.

I think I’m pretty close to sorting out my resort daily driver situation (95% sure the Woods 110s I just picked up will be keepers, after I get the tune dialed) so it’s time to start looking at the wider quiver slots.

I don’t think I want to be the fastest one down the mountain or destroying all the snow, more like surf natural features like wind lips and pop off small boulders, trying to connect pockets more playfully as things get chopped out. I’ve also been very happy with 180 cm Rustler 11s (112 mm waist) while it’s actively storming and just thinking that a bigger brother with a similar personality would be good. Sounds to me like J118 makes more sense than BG118 with that description? My biggest complaint about my current 118 waisted ski is that it wants to go fast and mostly make GS turns, which is fine for the first 5 laps of a powder day but less enjoyable once you are pecking and hunting and getting through long chopped / packed /bumpy runouts. Also note that I’m just window shopping right now … cash is about to get tight so this is more of a fun thought exercise and having fantasy plans in place for next year if I end up getting a job and cash starts flowing again.

Anyone have opinions on the Woods 110 tour vs BGT 110? Emailed on3p and all they really said was that the woods is all mountain that can do well in soft snow, and bg is soft snow that can do well all mountain.

Posted a WTB in gear swap, but thinking about these for next year's midwinter touring skis. 90% of my tours are Snoqualmie Pass.

Happy to let you try my BGT 110s if you are around 305 BSL. I'm not entirely sold on them yet but I have yet to try other options.
