If only I hadn't just taken three weeks off work for a GC trip... I could afford some SGs.

    Mistakes were made.

It sounds to me like the 114 will be a stock option for 18/19. So you clearly buy the SG now, and the 114 next year. Maybe some Jessie’s for your lady friend in between. No wrong can come from it.

I have a set of Wren 88 in 184cm that I spring tour on. I would find a touring core too soft anyways. Just an idea for you.

Good thought, it would mean I own all widths of the Wren line!

The 108 and 116 ST has RES, the 98 did not.

Presumably discontinued because it didn't sell well enough.

You can still get a steeple 98, by custom ordering wren 98s with a tour layup and skin clip tail.

Wren 98 is a great touring ski on its own - the standard tail holds skin clips just fine and they aren't really that heavy.

Had my first day out on Wren 98’s at Timberline Lodge this past weekend. 6+ inches of Cascade cement and snowboarder packed undulations. The rocker profile of the Wren’s handled both conditions really well. No tip dive in the cement and easy pivot on the packed.

I didn’t even notice the stiffness of the Wrens one way or the other so started thinking about adding Billy Goats for Mt Hood powder days. I was thinking that the Billy Goats might be too stiff. How does the flex pattern and stiffness of the Billy Goats compare to the Wren 98’s? The website has the Wren 98’s stiffness profile as 7-8-7 and the Goats as 7-9-8 for tip-waist-tail.

Billy goats shape makes them easy to ski. The flex allows them charge chop and chunder. Best of both worlds.

Different side cut though, not that it matters heaps.

Edit; Had a browse of the 88 stats and its super similar to the ski I tour on now... Even 0.05kg lighter! Plenty light enough for me without going tour layup and loosing the downhill aspects. Thanks for the tip.

You just can't go wrong with some BGs. Get them and join the 98 wrens + BG crew. Best two ski quiver.
