Would love to hear your thoughts on how they compare to Billy Goats. Considering going with a more directional shape once my J118s make it to retirement.

Totally! I've resisted getting on a wider Jeffrey for a long time. But I spend so much time in the trees and tight spaces on pow day, that my Billy Goats work but aren't always the easiest to manage. I suspect I'll like both and decide which I choose based on terrain I expect to tackle on any given day.

At that price and him living a few miles away, it would be irresponsible to not check them out.

Update - Meeting the guy tomorrow and fully expect to have another pair of skis tomorrow.

I hope you don’t make me regret the used 182 Wood Eagle BG118s I just bought over J118s! That said, my current 118 waist is an Armada Tracer 118 that has a lot of camber, like 7 mm, so it likes room to run and finish its turns. I’ve gotta imagine the BG118 being faster to pivot in steep trees than that ski.

BG118s is the logical progression from Tracer118s - they should be a looser, more soft snow specific version of a similar type of ski. I am sure you will be very happy with them - directional stability of WDs, but the hoovercraft type looseness of RES.

If my time on K116s and BO118s is any indication, then Jeff118s will generate a lot more float from the back half of the ski. That will make them very loose as well, but in a different way to BGs. BGs/RES skis are loose in that the main part of the floatation is generated in front of the binding, with the pin tail design enabling you to place the back part of the ski whereever regardless of snow conditions. Skis like K116s and BO118s are also very loose, but in a schmeary way. As the edge angles increases the differences in feel should increase as well - meaning BGs are becoming increasingly looser while K116s are less so.

So in essence, the difference should pretty much be what you can deduce from their respective shapes. Both will mob variable, yet BGs will rage a bit harder while retaining its looseness while jeffs should rage plenty hard, but retain their ability to ski switch, feel a bit more balanced in the air and in general be a bit more inclined to fun over charge.

I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy said BG118s.

K122s acquired! They are in great shape for skis this old. Unfortunately I will likely have to put a 3rd mount on them. Will see if my Pivots will work with the current mounts, but I have sasquatch feet.

Thanks for these notes. Directional but loose is generally what I’m looking for. I can’t ski switch for shit unless it’s a buttery smooth groomer.

“Rustler 12 with a core suited for wet PNW snow” is kind of what I’ve been looking for, which always seemed in between BG and Jeff design philosophy. N+1 is the correct answer, but the reality is that I only get 2 days a season on the big skis anyways, and the price was right on that 182 Wood Eagle BG.

I've regretted selling my 184 BG108tours, so finally pulled the trigger on a new pair. I did not get along that well with BG110 181s, so opted for 186s. Very pleased thus far. The graphic is sensational - dancing goats = awesomeness!



The original plan was to mount them with ATKs, but changed my mind - Vipecs went on instead. They weigh 200gr more a binding, but their added comfort / ride feel makes it worth it imho. I might have to shim the toes a bit (or the heels if I decide to use them with Tecton heels), but will give them a spin before I do.

Did I mention that I love the graphic? They look sooooo good in person, the build quality is immaculate and can't wait to try them in some proper conditions.

I mounted these bad boys as well - stock jeff118 186 mounted at rec.



It will be very interesting to try them - they are more different to BlackOps118 than I anticipated. They are a couple of hundred grams lighter, has less tail splay with very similar tail rocker depth, and where the tips have more splay that rises more sooner. They also have very limited camber (a fair bit less than BO118s) as well as more aggressive tapering in front of / aft of the widest points of the tips/tails. Their flex pattern is nice and round, if not terribly stiff - seems supportive though. These should absolutely slay fresh snow. It will be interesting to see if the differences in taper and splay together with a slightly softer flex and less camber makes up for the BO118s weight and very nice suspension (layup, camber, flex pattern) in variable.

High expectations for sure - they seem extremely dialed imho.

I picked up a pair of J118s in 186cm and have had a lot of fun on them. I am curious if the additional camber on the BO 118s adds any suspension/pop to them? No new powder skis for me this coming year, but it's fun to think about options.

I love those F14 Tomcat topsheets. The Top Gun nostalgia is very real (I grew up driving past MCAS Miramar quite a bit). I need to post a pic of my fake 186 Wren Pro topsheets that got laid up on my 182 Woods 110s, will make me look more core than I really am

I have been wanting to A/B test a pair of BlackOps118 and Jeffrey118, but $$$ = finite.

I have a 186 BO118 and the new Jeff118 186. My BlackOps are on the lighter side at about 2375g/ski and will likely be going up on GS this fall. Both skis destroy chop. Both pivot and slash extremely easy. Both super surfy with the Jeffs being slightly more so. The BlackOps has waaaaay more camber than the Jeff, especially the current one. I was shocked how easily it still throw sideways even with all the camber. I think that where the BlackOps beats out the Jeff is on groomers, it rips, and it allows you to drive through the shovels more than the Jeffs. Where the BlackOps falls short, and why I choose the Jeff, is that the heavier and more bulbous tips and tails (very little taper) of the BOPs, feel cumbersome and become tiring after a day of skiing trees or tight terrain. The Jeffs tapered tips and tails are so nimble and easy. Both skis slash and go sideways very easy but the tips of the Jeffs are just automatic and stupid easy to point and turn wherever you want whenever you want. You think the turn and it happens. No fatique, effortless. I ski mine at -1.5cm from recc fwiw.
