Love the story behind this song (she wrote it for her partner and mentor Porter Wagner who didn't want her to go out on her own). The original singer/songwriter of the song -

There's a lot of music posted here that isn't sad at all, some a bit melancholy and others actually uplifting. It turned into another "one up" thread.

The flip side to the "repulsively attractive" thread would more accurately be titled "attractively ugly" or "beautifully repulsive", but where would we go from there?

Well now.. maybe not sad to you but perhaps the song speaks to something in the posters life/past that evokes a feeling of sadness/loss/regret for a person/place/time. It all comes down to "where you stand depends on where you sit".

People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

The world's saddest song. I am dedicating this to OldLarry.

    "Saw your other man today
He was wearing my brand new shoes"

    Beautifully melancholic.

(Joan Armatrading doesn't get nearly the recognition she deserves.. IMHO)

    I think Joan's great, personally.

Always found this song pretty but sad:

Eleanor Rigby fits the bill too.
