Huck, I've been in Biotech sales, (for 22 years) or wine making equipment sales, (for 9 years), nobody gives a fuck what you drive.
My work cars:
Buick Skyhawk, Subaru XT, MB 190, Audi 100 CS Quattro, Audi A4 avant, A4, Allroad, 328 wagon.
The only mention I get is: What do you think of that car?, etc., and it starts a conversation, and they're either car people or not.
Like in life, I think people dig the fact that you would be confident and secure in your choice.Well maybe I'm the faggot America

I pit 50,000 miles a year on my company car. Not selling but just have offices scattered across the west. In my mind its comfort, safety and dependability. I would get something that is easy to replace. Because frankly after 4 years and a couple hundred thousand miles you are going to be sick of it and ready for something different. My previous favorite was a Ford Explorer. Just got a new Grand Cherokee. The jury is still out.

What is a "company car " is this the car that really you own for which the company pays you expenses or a car they lease for you with a gas card which covers everything which could be a taxable benifit for all personal use even driving it from home to the office ...or ??
sorry to be a buzz kill but the thread does ask for road warrior specifics so IME figure out how you will be paying for the car before you buy the car
As buddy just pointed out comfort safety dependability to which i would add economy ... I don't think Bentleys get good milage
ime the long WB, the good traction, lots of carrying capacity, the comfortable upright arm chair seating ... a chrysler mini van was actualy a very good road warrior car up here in the frozen narthLast edited by XXX-er; 02-01-2016 at 03:04 PM.

It's funny you say that, because that's exactly what came to my mind too. Traveling machines.
I think if it were me dropping 30K I'd be tempted to get a used 2500 duramax. Drive one at work every once in awhile and I have a hard time imagining something I'd rather drive all day every day.

Luxury level Japanese would be the way to do it. Quality builds, added comfort, and not as flashy as the German lux brands. I had a Lexus IS300 Sportcross a while back, and miss it. It was comfortable on long road trips, fun to drive without being too flash or a handful, exceptional reliability. I like the practicality of a wagon, so others on my radar are Acura TSX wagon, Honda Crosstour, Lexus CT200, or Subaru 6speed 2.5l turbo. But you could find a good deal on the sedan version of any of those.

You have described a 2-3 year old Toyota Avalon. Bigger then the Camry, mechanically bomber, rides and sound on the highway like a bank vault. Has more then ample power and should easily top 200k miles before anything goes wrong. Plus ther is room in the backseat in the event you do take a clients or two to lunch. Its essentially a Lexus GS for 20k less.

A company car is typically a Chevy Malibu, Chevy Impala, Ford Taurus, Chrysler POS, or some other fwd piece of soulless plastic and cloth. To your question though, it is your latter point. A fleet vehicle that a 3rd party company manages for your employer that gives you the car and a gas card. In most cases personal use is just a given and not accounted for but there are instances where the employee will pay - like $100/mo so that your spouse can use it. It's nice to have as a 3rd car so you don't pile the miles on your personal vehicles but they are truly horrible base model examples of already sub-par cars.
A 'company car' is about as far as you can get from an vehicle credit or similar benefit where you get $, pre tax payments, or deductions towards the car of your choice.I still call it The Jake.

Not always... My fleet vehicle is picked from a list that depends on your current pay grade. The new fully loaded Jee Grand Cherokee I just picked up ( I pick colors and options) is pretty sweet. And yea the gas card and unlimited personal use is a pretty sweet benefit.

One of my favorite road warrior cars I ever had was an old Cadillac DeVille. Old and grandpa-ish, so totally unpretentious, but that car was actually kind of awesome for a $2000 beater. Silky smooth Northstar V-8 that had plenty of power (around 300 horses) yet somehow managed to average around 28 mpg. Pretty pimped out with heated seats, dual automatic climate control, motorized everything, really nice leather, and a HUDGE back seat which came in handy a time or two. Car was like driving a couch that's floating on a cloud down the highway, so 1000 mile road trips were incredible. Man, I miss the heck out of that car in all honesty.
What about an STS-V? Total sleeper, also pretty unassuming, and plenty nice for the road warrior in all of us. Cool car...if you can find one.
