That's a pretty strong statement. I've never made the drive to Snowshoe, but people keep telling me I should. Whitetail is my go-to example of mid-Atlantic skiing, what with it's shapeless freeway-style "trails". The stuff off the expert quad is fun, but if Snowshoe's no better than that, I'll forego the extra drive time. Given a day-trip scenario, I tend to make my way to Blue Knob.
I think it's really going to kick in after midnight. Here in Leesburg, I've got 8-ish inches already, and it's snowing really hard at the moment. Here's hoping for 24+.

Ok so I am in a hotel in a Philly suburb. Snowpocalypse continues. I am still departing for points north asap however the traffic & weather girls here are fucking hot.

I generally agree on Snowshoe, though the western side has the steepness and vert to make for some pretty good power skiing. If you could be there first thing this morning, that handful of good, early runs might be worth the shitshow that would follow.
We go to Canaan Valley quite a bit, and I prefer either hill there to Snowshoe in pretty much every way, but when it gets really deep, I find myself wishing for just a little more vert.Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Great Ice Storm of '94 anyone. I don't think I went to school for two weeks.

I found myself at snowshoe about 9 years ago when it dumped a solid 3 feet overnight. It was a Tuesday I think so the place was relatively empty. Buddy and I got first tracks all day and kept lapping the western territory which has about 1400' of vert IIRC. That day did not suck at all.
I still call it The Jake.

Exactly. Blue Knob is too far, and I find their double fall line kinda weird. Whitetail actually has more vert than Snowshoe with the exception of those 2 runs, and Cupp Run gets so crowded with drunken Southerners it's just not worth it.
If my kids are in school before Thursday I'll be stunned.
Well that's not recent.
Here's what my street looks like right now. The Pickup truck in the intersection is stuck and they abandoned it.

All-time record for the region was 32.4" in 2010 at Dulles airport, about 6 miles south of me. With ~28 inches here and nuking and at least 6 more hours of snow predicted we could top that one. Right now I don't think the truck could make it up the driveway if it had to, so we're settling in for a while.
