    Benefits of long term posting?

Are there any? Coming up on ten years here and I don't see leaving anytime soon.... too many good TR's and Padded Room stories to keep up with. Not to mention something funny every now and then. It's amazing how much this place has changed, but yet continues to maintain the certain low standards that make me feel so at home.

So what's the advantage to having been here so long? Other than the great stock tips and keeping abreast of Benny's latest lift plant? A quick list would have to include great inside travel knowledge to make you sound intelligent at cocktail parties, real time updates on snow conditions, and ski friends pretty much wherever there's snow. It's great traveling and knowing there's someone as addicted as you who's willing to show a complete stranger his/her hill.

This shared love of frozen water makes perfect sense to me, and obviously what keeps this sometimes weird and ridiculous freak show from totally blowing up. I think I've fought with at least half on here, but give us a foot of powder and we're all bff's. So for better or worse, thanks to TGR and it's owners for making this place available and connecting me with so many weirdos and maggots.

So other than fashion advice from Iceman and great tips on cast iron pan care, what's your reason for staying?

"reason for staying"? i dunno, I just stay. It's like a neighborhood that you like. Shit happens, faces change, but you still like it. I honestly don't think about it except once in a while it's like holy shit has the time gone by. But not much you can do about that.

Some good shit has happened, I've made some friends, it's helped pass the time, I like cracking jokes. Shit like that works for me.

how ironical. This was one of the threads I saw early on which made me think this place had a fair bit of fun characters and potential...
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

Hugh loathed TGR for its ego. I think he was right sometimes, but it's still the best forum on the net.

I hadn't thought of that tubing run in a long time, it still kicks ass. Did you ever do it in following years? RIP Otis.

I am definitely indebted to the maggotdom for success of my French Alp family adventure, Straightline camp with Gordy and JP, Utah penthouse use, and overall connection with so many great peops. Not to mention providing a comfort level by knowing there are maggots in nearly every city who would help you out if needed. And I hope I'm able to and have returned a few favors as well.

No, I did the hay for three years, but liability issues with renters made me rethink it. Kid got better on skis, so bigger hills for bigger thrills.

I will never forget the epic GrapeApe B&E to retrieve a package from a scammer's kitchen. That shit was crazy.

Also, a couple of times everyone kicked in to help someone who got injured. The guy in alaska who needed money for a sitski comes to mind.

Campbell if I remember correctly. Andy fucking Campbell. I might be spelling it wrong, but he was and probably is the shit.

Ex military, super stoked skier. That guy brought the stoke like no other, not because he was disabled, but because he brought straight good shit stoke.

I miss him. And Oh Burn Hard and his mum.
