If you're used to towing with a 3/4 ton diesel, I have to think you'll be disappointed.

That excursion is a dinosaur though, I'd be happy to help you out with disposal

The current 3.0 Ecodiesel is a continuation of the VM design. Same one used in Ram half ton trucks. Lots of revisions a few years ago. Sounded like there were some issues with the first few years. Not sure if they were resolved.

I love diesels, but not sure a modern diesel makes sense from a cost to run standpoint either. I wish you could get a v8 in the gladiator.

Depends a lot on where you travel and what type of driving. My 2015 3.2 L diesel sees almost zero city miles…lots of 70 mph driving in CA/PNW/UT etc. Idling, short trips in town are bad news for modern diesels for sure. Because I’m getting about 5 mpg more than identical vehicle with gas, and since diesel has so consistently been similar or cheaper (often $0.50 cheaper) than gas, I’m saving at least ten grand over expected lifetime. That includes the almost free DEF if you use truck stop pumps.

I know there’s a strong internet contingent that pays less for RUG than diesel but it’s just not been my experience over the years in the skiing / mtn biking states. YMMV

I like that a lot more than I expected to. Hits a nice combo of price, mpg, and garage able size.

Yeah for my wannabe truck I’d give up the extra row of seats for another foot and a half of bed length.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

I have never understood why hauling full sheets of plywood is the pre-requisite for being a “real” truck. Sure lots of salty old contractors need that, but most of us rarely do, and I’m fine having wood stick out the back of my tailgate twice a year when I need to.

    Trucks.

Are you fine having your skis hang out the back?

It’s the Explorer sport-trak all over again. Pointless.

A sheet of plywood isn't my litmus test either, but the list of stuff that will fit in that bed is vanishingly small.

Aside from the electric with good range part, that thing is such a bundle of compromises.

An 8 ft bed makes for a pretty fucking long truck especialy if its a 4 door,

Bob the ski hill owner/ carpenter always said to use a sheet of 4x8 for a bed protector,

that way if you need a sheet of plywood ... you got one

As a crusty contractor driving a quad cab Ram2500 CTD I like the 8' sheet goods carrying capacity. It also translates into a bunch of other stuff everyday people like to carry as well. This truck would be a good fit for a lot of buyers.

On the other hand, this cracks me up.... "The dash topper—inspired by synthetic countertops—is off-white and pleasing to the touch; it is complemented by different accent colors depending on which trim you spec."

Mine do. They also fit in a 6.5' bed. I fit in a 6.5' bed. My skis also fit diagonally in a 5' bed. Gets tricky for me there. 4.5' would probably be a stretch. Coolers and dry boxes also fit lengthwise in 6.5'. Get's rough shorter than that.

I like the thought that went into the bed design. I hope it sells decently but everyone really needs the long bed for everything so maybe it won't. Still it seems pretty well considered for a lot of people's uses.

I think 6.5' is the sweet spot. Skis fit straight, I can sleep in it, I can haul 8' lumber or a 4x8' sheet of plywood leaning out the back a few times a year for home projects without too much drama.

I actually really want something like the maverick for a DD, then I could get away with just having an old crusty regular cab 1 ton that only moves for real truck stuff.
