That solves the truck vs van camper conundrum.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Ford Ranger Raptor. Twin turbo diesel. Coil ‘watts’ rear suspension. Not sure what’ll change for US version.

US car makers are now pushing the light truck diesels because it makes their overall fleet MPG look better, and the diesel costs a little more, so they make a little more margin.

I ran into a guy I know yesterday and he was driving a '17 Colorado with the Duramax. He loves it. He's an older guy and not usually very animated but he talked my ear off for 20 minutes or more about the truck. He's getting just under 20 mpg around town and just over 30 mpg on highway trips. He said he's cruising on I-90 at 75mph and 1900 rpm. He said it does't matter even on longer grades, just cruises right along. On steep and rough forest roads he said you can just idle along. He's had it since Fall 2016 and hasn't had problem one.

Possibly driving down to look at a 2012 Tundra Rock Warrior in Pueblo. Last Toyota I had was a 2002 Taco TRD. Is there anything in particular I need to look out for on these trucks?

Ford is keeping things simple in the powertrain department, offering a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four mated to a 10-speed automatic as the sole powertrain.
The unfortunately demise of manual transmission is disappointing. I guess it would be a PITA in a 10 speed tranny.

Did anyone see the new Discovery?
Fucking sad what’s happened to Rover.

Trucks.
You mean the new unibody discovery?
They still make a body on frame discovery, too, right?
The halt on global production of the defender is odd and sad. Toyota upgraded the safety features of their 70-series "trucks" and are keeping them in production.
ETA: this indicates that a new "defender" is coming http://www.motortrend.com/news/new-l...s-design-boss/

Looking to buy a new-to-me 1 ton truck. Diesel, crew cab, long box, srw. I'd prefer to buy something with enough miles to make the price a bit more reasonable, while still getting into a truck that was built in the last ~8 years. I'm replacing a Ford, but I don't have any particular brand affiliation. Truck will mostly be used with a loaded bed, but will tow stuff on occasion.
Between Ford / Chevy / Dodge, any particular things to look for? Anything to avoid?
I'm aware of the 6L Ford issues. And it look like all 3 options had emissions equipment by 2013, which appears to reduce MPG's. But aside from that, any other notes on which model years might be preferable?
Perhaps this info is buried in here, but a search didn't produce anything...
