Details out now on the diesel F150. https://jalopnik.com/the-2018-ford-f...way-1821871761

Looks promising. We knew it was going to use the 3.0 L engine but it wasn’t yet known what tune. I think this truck will sell well. Hell I’d buy one if I didn’t have my diesel van 4x4 conversion

Just posted this in the RV thread. Pretty excited to get a 30mpg truck, although real world will be lower. My V8 gets 12-15mpg so yeah, 30 sounds wonderful. The 11,400 towing rating is also pretty appealing.

$4000 price tag penalty and only 250hp.
30mpg does sound great but I wonder how much the 10speed trans would be hunting up and down mountain passes. 2000lbs payload is awesome for a 150 though.

My 4.0 Liter Frontier only got 16.5mpg, hopefully more effecient diesels will drive the prices down long run, 45K for the Colorado is a little rich.

Chevy getting in on the midsize Diesel engine thing too

...the return of the 4.5L "LMK" Duramax turbodiesel V-8, which was due for the 2010 model year before being scrapped. Back then, rumors insisted the engine would produce 310 hp and 520 lb-ft, numbers that would absolutely shame both the Ford 3.0L Power Stroke and the Ram 3.0L EcoDiesel. In fact, the LMK would come close to matching the larger, heavier Nissan Titan XD's 5.0L Cummins V-8, making us wonder if General Motors might be considering reviving the "1500HD" designation for certain configurations of the2019 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.

Engine braking would be what I'd want to know about. Ecoboost is great uphill, but doesn't engine brake worth a crap downhill.

I was pretty impressed with the fuel economy on a 2015 ecoboost, I drove 10 hrs on mostly logging roads and hardly used any gas

I had one as a dealer-loaner for a couple days, and yeah - that thing just sipped gas.

    But owning a twin-turbo Ford?

Maybe if you can flog it before the motor is off warranty?

But that ^^ was part of the last fishing seasons annual " truck envy" shuttle seshions and I made it thru without buying a new truck

I was all over the map do I buy a big truck to carry a camper in which case I really need a 3/4 ton or do I go tacoma or F-150

Then I bought an old 13' FG trailer which is <1500 lbs so I can tow it fine with the ol Ranger

    And the US Ranger: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/fo...-for-2019-news

2.3 ecoboost with around 300 hp. 10 spd auto only. Interested to see how practical the supercab/6 ft bed version is. I assume the 2.7 eb will be in the Raptor version.

Not sure about the front end yet but the wheel arches on the new Silverado are a yuge improvement. Inline six baby Duramax is exciting.

Love the diesel evolution going on. Both the new F150 and the mid-max will have great applications.

That said, we just bought a 2017 F350 and ho-lee shit has technology come a long way. Even compared to the 6.4 this truck is silent and a goddamned rocket ship. It's also the first new vehicle I've ever owned in 40 years, so that's exciting.

Damned ChryCo products Driving my 06 Durango today because it's supposed to snow, I hopped out to get gas this morning and turned the thing off and when I got back in the key wouldn't turn. The ignition cylinder took an early retirement and stranded me at the pump. Couldn't take it out of park to roll it out of the way so had to get it dragged onto a flatbed and towed to a shop. Took the better part of the column apart to get the cylinder out and had to take the beeper assembly off the key to do it. Apparently there's a release deep inside the cylinder so you have to tap the key firmly then turn it while it's deep in there and that releases a spring so you can push a pin with a dental pick and remove the cylinder. Fkn expensive pita for a $40 part.

I don't know if us diesel truck require a diesel particulate filter, but in France I bought a Subaru diesel and at 80,000 miles I had to change that filter and it was$4,000. All diesel cars there require this filter, and they all need replacement before 100 k miles, which basically negates any improvement in mileage.

Have yet to read anything other than opinion that states the dpf must be replaced every 100k miles. Government mandate requires emissions components be warranted for 80k miles in the US so that’s a bit more coverage in that regard. On the other hand, Petrol Subaru’s require head gasket repair every 100k miles so you’re probably still going to come out ahead.

Depends. Currently, each state has their own emission requirements and that is often determined by which county within that state. As an example, where I live in BFE, Idaho, I can disable my DPF as we have no emissions checks in our county. But if you did that in Portland, you'd likely be hung.

Miles, I converted from kilometers. I did the math and the diesel was more expensive, but at least it smelled worse.
