That would ensure Rivian gets to production.

Got my deposit in on the SUV. Might do a truck too.

It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

I tried to imagine how slow this thing would be and I don't think it would get much about 60 mph.

Kuddos to whoever came up with the plan to rename station wagons as "SUV"s. I'm from the days when a truck was a truck, even if it had a covered passenger cab ala Bronco or Suburban and a car was either a car or a station wagon regardless of if it was raised up a little or had mud flaps. I still refer to my Forester as a "station wagon".

Yes but that ^^ was pre Mini Van

never mind the MiniVan has more room gets better milage, lower CG, better AT highway speed when it snows, the main reason for the SUV is so mom can distance herself from being a mini van person

I alwasy look at them unimog picts and think that would suck as a grocery getter/ highway commutes/ dropping kids at school/ stopping at the gas pumps ... almost anywhere the average american would be driving it

which is why anyone with any brains is gona buy an f-150 instead ... best selling vehical in NA

Wife wants this NOW, I want to wait a few years till they work out the bugs. If they come out with a full size, full length bed, I'll be in in a heartbeat.

What was the name of the company in upstate NY that's working on electric pickups? Drawing a blank.

Bollinger, they moved to Michigan if memory serves. I don't know if they have that sort of backing... they were looking more niche.

Pretty prophetic since it seems to apply to most new pickups today, too.

huh, they did move. Probably smart to do so I guess, lots more automotive resources in MI, but i did like that they were in bumfuck NY for whatever reason.

I think you'll have to wait a couple years just to see one on the road. Working out the bugs looks more like 5 or more years. Who knows though- if that big money invests, maybe it will go quicker.

I don't think you WANT to drive 60 mph in a unimog.

Most Tires that fit on a Unimog start disintegrating at speeds above 60. Their wide stance also tends puts its tires off the path of most vehicles and into the path of things that damage tires.
Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.

Good friend had a '74 four-door Unimog. Gearing limited the speed, and as I recall it was around 45-50.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

I can see the appeal of the K5 Blazer one for a fullsize offroader. Burly parts, slow engine though.

Just throw a 454 in there. People are practically giving them away with their most awesome 4-5mpg. I remember Peterson's 4wheel picking up a military k5(or whatever is was designated) from the big surplus place in idaho and doing a mild build on it.

Outside magazine makes me vomit. Bunch of rich yuppie city kid nonsense with one good article each issue. Bring back playboy or even old school maxim. God damn PG corporate culture is so lame.
