I like that rover. I think so gle nailed it with the raptor and whatever that dodge thing is. Appeals to a certain type of person. And it ain't me. My hundred series cruiser does everything I could ask of it without a whimper. For driving around town and commuting, those trucks (and the cruiser) are just stupid. But they do let you project a certain image in the company parking lot. Lots of nicer things to drive around than a wannabe trophy truck.
That said, BS, bring one out to the desert and let's rally it!

Man, I'm still struggling to decide if I want to trade in my truck and get a Tacoma. Current truck is 2013 Silverado with 111k miles. Positives of keeping it: I use it as a truck a handful of times a year where the bed size comes in handy. Hauling dirt/yard debris/furniture etc. It gets decent gas mileage. It's long since paid for. Negatives: feels like its starting to nickle and dime me on maintenance, I had it in the shop at least 6 times in the past year and I frequently drive remote places where a breakdown would suck.
Tacoma positives: smaller and easier to maneuver, better off-road. Reliable, new with warranty. Negatives: damn near useless bed and small cab. The other factor is that timing seems good, I doubt anyone is ever going to give me 19k trade in on my truck again, dents and all. That feels like a win.
WWMD?

A 2013 truck with lowish miles with 6 repair episodes in a yr sounds like a lemon to me.

6’ bed isn’t worthless IME and the cab is fine for average height folks. Definitely not as much sq footage as a full size, though. I’d get the Tacoma, but I’m biased. I love my little truck. Plenty big for what I need to do.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

If the Tacoma is too small then get a Tundra. Almost the same price. I’ve had my Taco for a year and love it but definitely had second thoughts. It is definitely better for off roading, which I do a good amount of, but I do miss the power and size of a full size truck. I was able to get a manual and that made me happy.

This seems relevant to the discussion. My new-to-me wannabe trophy truck.
Took it out in the dirt and snow right away to test it out. Coming from a 100 series cruiser, I'm really looking forward to the change. The cruiser treated me so well but it's getting a bit long in the tooth and was too small for 2 humans and 3 dogs camping. The raptor is more comfortable in every way and really enjoyable to drive on and off road. I probably won't use it to it's full potential but it will see a shit load of dirt. The cooled seats alone are gonna be a game changer, looking forward to the reduction in summer time road trip swamp ass.
I won't lie though, little worried about the added length and girth. I regularly get the cruiser into shitty situations where I have to bail and turn around, it actually happened this weekend in Idaho on a skinny forest service road with a massive drop on one side. We had been hitting some snow patches but nothing that stopped us, finally got to one that we weren't going to get through. I had to back up until the road got just a bit wider where I could do a 3 point turn and head back down. Not sure how that would have played out if we were in the raptor, guess we will find out soon enough.

formerly an ambassador for a few others, but the ski industry is... interesting.
Fukt: a very small amount of snow.

I'd agree that you could have a lemon there. A silverado with 111k miles shouldn't be having many issues. Yeah, its a great time to sell/trade-in but remember then you have to buy in the over-inflated market so overall probably a wash. Silverados, tundras, and tacomas are all great trucks. I will say it would be hard for me to go from a full size bed to a tacoma short bed. Maybe the compromise is a tacoma 6' bed? Assuming you have a short bed on your chevy. Tacomas are crazy expensive up front but since they're depreciation is so low they're a pretty good value. If you think you're going to keep having issues with the chevy then I'd look into something else. If you think its an isolated issue that's been fixed, I'd stick it out. It would also highly depend if I like the current chevy hah. That's my 2 cents

Haven't sold the cruiser yet but from what I'm seeing and hearing I think I'll do ok. I've had a couple of friends ask about it so maybe it will stay in the area. I think the raptor will get a few mpgs better on long highways stretches, around town it's probably the same. Might be a wash in the end though because the raptor requires premium gas.
20" spinners coming any day now.
