Best non-alcohol drink at a bar

I like beer and whiskey neat, but this thread isn't about that.

If you are out as the designated driver or just do not want to have alcohol, what do you get?

My standby is tonic water and limes, what is yours?

Coke's great for those times. At least at good bars, any time I've let the bartender know that I was DD, I'd get to drink sodas all night for free. Also agree that tonic and lime's great, as is just straight club soda and lime.

Not to thread drift too much, but reminds me of when I went totally dry for a while back in my heaviest drinking, younger days and was permanent DD for several months. Ended up actually being a really, really fun time as I got to see the bars in a perspective I never had. Was interesting observing the natural habitat of the bar-goer as if I was a National Geographic documentarian. Good times, but sometimes bizarre too.

Club soda with lime. And if it is going to be a long night maybe a cup of coffee too. For the (first world) shit that annoys you thread, bartenders that charge the DD for club soda. Ran into one this fall. Not. Going. Back.

Coke with a lot of lemon. Or Sprite. Or Pepsi. Water is good, too. So is living in walking distance of bars.
    No longer stuck.

Soda, bitters, lime. Something of a cheat, as there is alcohol in bitters.

I try really hard not to drink soda's anymore (coke, sprite, etc) but the above sounds good. Is the soda water doing shitty stuff to me like a coke does?

    Edit: found it: http://superhumancoach.com/benefits-of-soda-water

Ask the bartender for their non-alcoholic specialty. They'll usually mix up something pretty nice. My wife does that all the time and gets some good drinks.

I must admit to being confused by this question. This all sounds like reading a textbook about sex while sitting in a whorehouse.

Mary and I were in a cable car once in Cortina. There was a bar at the top but I promised her that we were just going up to enjoy the view from the observation deck and there would be no drinking. At most, perhaps a bit of bitters in soda, which is good for the liver and digestion.

I looked out the window of the cable car and saw a couple lying in the alpine meadow below us, making love on a picnic blanket. The man was on top, pumping away like a metronome. Tick tock. Tick tock. He had to be a young man, anyone who has realized they could drop dead at any minute could never fuck like that.

After seeing that with my own eyes, I could not keep my promise to Mary. When we reached the bar atop the mountain I promptly drank half a bottle of Campari.

I see people in the park forgettin' their troubles and woes
They're drinkin' and dancin', wearin' bright colored clothes
All the young men, with the young women lookin' so good
Well, I'd trade places with any of 'em in a minute, if I could.

Actually Ernest makes a good suggestion. Bitters and soda tastes like something you don't normally drink at home, so is a "going out" alternative. Ginger beer is good too - still tastes like a Moscow Mule, is spicy so you sip it instead of chugging, etc.

Who the fuck wants anything that resembles a Moscow Mule? Otherwise, sound advice.

You don't like Ginger Beer? Wuss. I've had a Virgin Dark & Stormy as well - Bartender used Agave Syrup and some kind of bitters (Rhubarb, maybe?) to mimic the Gosling's.
