Pretty much a perfect day in little slide except for my friend losing his phone in the couloir. All stable steep pow skiing and fast travel approach n exit. I’m at a loss for words to do it justice so I’ll try w pics.

Last year, i tried to ski the incredible hulk couloir, and the approach into the canyon was pure hell, huge boulders not totally covered.
Is it good now?
Thinking of going Sunday or Monday.

Any beta from this week up near Bridgeport? Forecast looks sunny cold windless and stable so thinking it could be fun up kettle peak or thereabouts

how are things down there. up here in Tahoe the north facing is still holding good snow and the shiny areas are best avoided. samesies? heading down tomorrow to at least poke around June since i've never been.

Got in a few great runs out of Aspendell over the weekend. Bishop Bowl was skiing beautifully down to ~9000 feet on Saturday. Northerly aspects on top of Jawbone Canyon were nice as well. Bottoms of both were getting thin, but could still make it to the car with skis on. Guessing that's no longer the case after another 60+ day...

Afraid not. Beers at Mt Rambler were calling my name after the tour so I didn't make the turn to check out conditions at south lake.

I think we bumped into you both days, sat afternoon at bottom of bishop bowl and then heading out the following morning. You were solo right? I was with the splitboarder

Looking for info on Eocene Peak. Planning a variation of the sawtooth crest traverse, the only unknown on the route is off of Eocene west down into Little Slide Canyon. If anyone has a description of that section (ice lake up to eocene summit) that would be helpful. Thanks.

this? i think if you follow the ridge north off the summit plateau it takes you here. this is march 2017 so it was fat then. any current hulk tr should have a pic similar though (hulk is far left in this pic)
but lately i've been thinking about these three gems just past the hulk (coming from eocene). not sure how easy they would be to get to on the backside though

From Ice Lake, don't go west over the pass into YNP. Instead, skin SSE up an obvious chute that leads up to the SW shoulder of Eocene Peak. The chute basically parallels the Hoover/YNP boundary (the climbers right side wall of the chute is the border). The chute may be skinnable some/most of the way. I had to crampon up near the top and there was some gnarly ice sections but lots of shrubbery to grab onto (french free style). The chute goes, no worries.
Once you're at the top of the chute, you will have a killer view down into (Big) Slide Canyon, the backside of the sawtooth, and Whorl/Finger peaks. Hang a left and bushwhack your way up through scrub pines to the summit.
The route I took is here: https://www.strava.com/activities/997886935
This is looking down to Ice Lake from the top of the chute (lake just right of center of pic below Kettle Peak)
View across to Whorl Mtn / Finger Peaks w. bear tracks (it booted the couloir between blacksmith and eocone, and down into slide canyon -- badass bear)
looking down from near the summit through the scrub pines you have to schwack up. by sierra standards this is a very mild bushwhack. i might even call this "hiking"

Lol last week I came off Pyramid Peak a bit too far west and spent over an hour neck deep in manzanita hell, the ‘bushwhack’ in your pic looks much more manageable
Thanks so much for the pics and info, I effing love this area so much - have a couple lines I’m stoked on and one of them requires going over Eocene (which I haven’t done) so this is super helpful. Hoping to tick a couple lines off my list soon!

Whoa those look killer! This is north of hulk?
EDIT: oh sry I’m a dummy. That would be an awesome spot to get in to.
Super stoked on this snowfall! Hoping for a long 5th season.
