Thanks for the tip on Rakkup. I hadn't heard of that before. I just got the digital version of this http://rakkup.com/guidebooks/backcou...astern-sierra/ for $20. Note that this title is currently only available for Apple devices, though it seems like the android version is forthcoming.

Managed to get in a few great runs at Mammoth before kid ski race today.
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

Saw this beauty earlier in the season on another tour so we went and skied it.
A look at the line we spotted the line from.
It was quite good.
PowDork AKA Windboard Dork getting all up in the SS couloir.
Looking back up the little canyon from across the way on an attempt to gain enough elevation to ski corn back to the car. It didn't work. I ended up in the deep dark woods for the second time this season trying to ski out of the big canyon.
Well never seen that one before...another day.

Eastside Conditions Thread
Can anyone comment on road conditions around Whitmore hot spring, Benton Crossing, or the hot springs area in general?
I'm hoping to be based camping and skiing there in two weeks.

Yeah, somethingclever and Powdork! I've always wanted to ski that one, which I learned was named by gimpy a few pages back ("Jah Bless").
Took a week off and am now going stir crazy. Would be nice if there were more TRs and less lurking.

@somwthingclever AWESOME! Love it nice work.
Was it dirt all the way to the entrance of the canyon? Pondering heading up that way soon.

Wanted to ski this. Too warm and we were too late given how warm it was though those may just be excuses. That said there was quite a bit of wet sluff coming off solar aspects and I dont think we would have wanted to be in there. Awesome line but timing needs to be right.
Beautiful day in the Sierra.
Not the worst alternative.
A look at Morgan.

Anyone know how far the road to the Portal goes?

I would guess Hogback Road. Opening will be delayed due to major rockfall damage back in February.

I get it. It's definitely a cool looking mountain, and I bet only a small handful of people have ever skied it. I want to ski Muriel Peak (near Piute Pass), which looks a little similar:
Anyhow, I've never done it and have other plans, but tomorrow would be a good day to get a 4k corn lap off of Hunewill for anybody willing to get an early start.

Hell if I know. What I do know is the link you posted is very much NOT the current condition of that road, and I figured you guys would appreciate a little more recent info, but whatever.
For other possibly useful (or not) info, the Inyo County Sheriff's Office FB page is quite informative.
For example, from 3/23:
*Whitney Portal Road UPDATE: The protective slurry has been placed over the damaged sections of the road where the rockslide occurred. The road is currently under the standard winter closure.
There is still road work taking place. The seasonal road closure often opens by May 1st, conditions permitting. Every effort is being made to have the road open by this date.

i knew the link was old but was unaware things had progressed that much. i spoke to someone on the 16th that just skied it and was told the repairs were major and would be a while. i'm guessing that was second or third hand though.

Well, honestly I'd still be surprised if that road, or any Sierra mountain road for that matter, opened anywhere close to the usual time this year. Given the amount of snow we've had and storm damage it seems reasonable that many of them would be like a month later than usual. Guess that's a good problem, gonna be an epic spring!

Anyone get a look at Pinner or mendenhal recently? Thinking of doing an early morning mission down there from tahoe.
