The parents are also shitbags, one set lives next door to a meth cook (well its gone now but). Their hood is full of meth and H. The cop told my kid she is "making pretty fucking shitty decisions" and she is choosing scumbag friends who are worthless. He apologized to me later for cussing.

You seriously think that posting this shit about your underage daughter's experimentations with booze (and probably multiple sexual partners) to a board frequented by the likes of us is a good parenting judgement call?
Well carry on then...
Personally I'd be discussing this shit with her, her mother, friends.. not tossing it into an almost completely unmoderated ski forum.
Good job Dad.

That's really shitty, my photog gear is by far the most expensive thing I own and I'd I'd be pretty mad if it walked. Your own house isn't really a place you'd worry about your stuff getting nicked but this isn't the first time I've heard it happen (gear going walkabout when phtogs are shooting with people in their home).
I guess no chance the house insurance will pay out if these thieves walked in invited. Jcolingham's suggestion is probably your best option.
Although easy to strip, I'd be cool if cameras embedded their serial into the exif and google image search could search them.

Maybe he's right, but from an outsider's perspective it would certainly seem like Tuckerman is giving his daughter WAY too much benefit of the doubt.

It is easiest to have all your stuff insured when dumb kids live at home with you. I don't even want to remember all the shit that got fucked up, stolen or whatever. My wife had jewellery jacked that her deceased mom had given her. She was super bummed and of course the kids had no one over while we were out of town. Just another great reason to have dogs over kids.

That you know of. ;-)
Sorry, I had to. I have two daughters so I probably shouldn't go there.
But seriously, I'd be more concerned about the assholes your daughter is associating with than your stolen camera gear. The former will end up costing you a hell of a lot more than the latter.

I only had to toss one of my daughters scumbag boyfriends down the stairs. They both knew where I stood. I did my job. Tough spot Tuckerman but a lucky catch in time I hope. Easy to know what to do. Tough to pull off. Forget the scumbags. Forget the cameras. Your daughter could be calling you from the station house next or worse. I think you should let her out of being grounded (No phone too) some time before the end of the school year. 2 week minimum. And drive her to and from school every day for that time. And add in no uncertain terms that contact with those boys is forbidden. Period! She will hate you. She will cry. She will throw things. "BooHoo. My life is over". It will tear your guts out but you must stand firm. You will bond. Your Daddy's dance with her at her wedding will be that much sweeter.
PS If I ran into either of those guys I'd tell him that "if I see or hear that you even spoke to my daughter again I'll kick your ass. I would. Tell him that, that is. And with my meanest face. He'd hear it.
Good luck.A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.

All my camera gear stolen.
Who mixes rum with Kahlua? Maybe it was for the roofies?
Others have said it, you have bigger problems than a bag of stolen camera gear. Your daughter was at home and unsupervised with two adult males. Do you really think if they were drinking and messing around that she would just cop to it?
I say this as the father of two teenage girls.

I remember being young. My parents treated me like an adult and I tried my hardest to act as one. For some reason it never occurred to me that some folk have no respect. Those are the folk that drag you down and make you look bad. Disappoint your parents. I had friends like that. Tuckerman's kid had friends like that. Being a teen is one big learning experience. When you're young, you don't realize your actions and decisions can affect someone else's life. Sounds like a no brainer, but to a teen it isn't. I I'm confident your kid can apply this lesson to the rest of her life. Stuff can be replaced.
