Coast makes some good headlamps. White, red, and green lamps for following a blood trail.

I bought this Inova mid size light a few years back and LOVE IT for flashlight oriented use cases. It's got both white/red light, is rechargeable and the charge lasts for a long time. the red is very bright and extremely useful for walking around the neighborhood at night. it's probably too large for daily carry in a pocket tho.

If you're looking for very high power, get a Thrunite TH30. Way better and cheaper than the comparable-brightness Petzl or BD offerings.

I have several BD headlamps fail or be too complicated to use. I'm happier with Petzl. Never tried thrunite. Next time.

Zebralights championed the headlamps. 18650 batteries lasts FOREVER along it can rotate 360 deg which is very useful to hit the right angle for whatever acivity you are doing!

Petzl Bindi is the best for a very lightweight headlamp, but not very bright. Perfect for backpacking. BD Storm is great for everyday use.

I picked up a Sofirn SP40 to use for after hour hiking up/skiing down. Its pretty bright and can be used as a headlamp (little heavy). They are on sale at amazon with promo code 15TJDDIT. Very well built and you can also buy direct from Sofirn if you're not in a hurry.

Got a Nitecore HC33 I like. Nitecore has bigger heat syncs than most.

They are indeed pretty great. I've used mine for light downhill as well as skinning and it's fine.

For serious or longer duration running or skiing, the Zebralight is fantastic.

If we're talking Nitecore, on paper I have yet to find a better headlamp for night skinning/skiing than their HC68 but I haven't pulled the trigger and field tested one yet.

95% certain though that their $30 cold resistant 18650 is actually just a $10 button-top Molicel M35A.
