Recently Scooped an ME eclipse recently.

R1 hoody has become an about town piece. For performance and breathability, the ME is clearly the better one for me...

I run super hot. When I skied Southern VT, I was glad of the R1 hoody warmth. In the PNW, it's overkill.

    Hooded Base Layer

I have an icebreaker or smartwool, lightweight thing it's 195/200 or something like that, got from STP, really lightweight and the hood fits like a balaclava, can go easily under a helmet

    might be this one

I just picked up a Bross R1 hoody from Fulsus/Freeride Systems, surprisingly, it's my first from the company. Really liking it so far. Full zip, hoody pockets, baggy fit (I'm in an XL).

I think if you're not wearing something like cap4 then you're fuckin' up.

Nice warmth under a layer. When it gets warm and sweaty it breathes so well, but also stays comfortable when soaked, like against your pack. Doesn't hold much water and keeps it off your skin.

My fav is also the old MEC T2, it's lighter than cap 4, but not too different. By far the best range from cold to warm conditions.

A little more trim in the waist, much longer torso (no exposed belly/back when moving with arms overhead) and much longer arms (no exposed wrists/no thumb pain from short sleeves.)

Raising a thread from the grave to report that I toured in my Bross today and loved it. I ditched the wool beanie that usually gets soaked by the top and used the hood. It was mind blowing! It’s breathable, keeps my ears warm and you can pull it up or drop it without having to store it like a toque.

Another vote for Armada Rotor hoodie. Love that it's a full balaclava and the weight and fit make it doable as both a base and light midlayer.

Rotor is great and picked up a cabelas one that is a little heavier on sale. Good deal around neck and ears for windy days.
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

I use some kind of BD power stretch hoody from a few years ago which is on the lighter side

IME what a lighter hoody is good for is riding lifts to add some warmth around neck & head when the wind hits from the south & west right down the lift line

being on the lighter side I can wear it under the helmet

Can anyone comment on which brand(s) has more material/room in the neck.
I wear a medium now but can only use a large (MEC T-3) other wise it screws up my neck.

Thanks for the heads up! Snagged one and will compare to my Mountain Equipment Eclipse hoody - the gold standard of hooded base layers.

Anyone tried the Under Armour Base 2.0 with hood? Looks very similar.

First Lite Chama has a roomy neck, so much so that I can remove the hood without unzipping at all. The medium chama is pretty big for a medium in general. It works, I would just prefer a tighter fit.
